CC Sabathia also surrendered a solo home run, allowing four earned runs over seven innings of work. He walked two and struck out nine.

Alfonso Soriano hit a solo home run in the second inning. Kelly Johnson singled in the other New York run in the seventh inning, chasing Jon Lester.

Derek Jeter was the leadoff batter in the Yankees’ batting order for first time since breaking his left ankle in the 2012 AL championship series opener. He beat out an infield single in four at-bats.

The Yankees and Red Sox play at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
