Result: The Yankees lost the series finale to the Rangers, 3-2, Wednesday night in Texas.
Need to Know: Hiroki Kuroda looked like he was going to be in for a short outing Wednesday after allowing three runs in the first inning. Kuroda ended up giving the Yanks an additional six innings and didn’t allow a run the rest of the way. Brett Gardner continued his power surge, hitting his fourth home run in three nights. Unfortunately for the Yankees, all four of Gardner’s homers have been of the solo variety. Jacoby Ellsbury also connected on a solo home run and Carlos Beltran had a two-hit night in an otherwise quiet game for the Yankees’ offense. Derek Jeter went hitless in his final game in Arlington.
Game Ball: Kuroda, who kept the Yankees in the game when it looked like it might get away from New York early.
