Bob Barker to retire from Price is Right

    http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/...b-barker_x.htm

LOS ANGELES — The Price Is Right is losing a prize that can't be estimated in dollars and cents: legendary host Bob Barker.
Barker, 83 in December, will retire from the game show in June after 35 seasons as its first and only host. "I want to retire while I'm still young," Barker said after taping Tuesday in the Bob Barker Studio at Television City.
"I probably made up my mind four or five days ago," he says. "I got up in the morning, and I was rushing around to the fax machine, to the telephone, to get the mail, trying to get to the studio, and I thought, 'Now's the time.' "

I'll miss Bob Barker and his charisma, humor, and energetic delivery.

CBS will have their hands full replacing him.

I'm surprised he's still around. I haven't watched that show in ages.

If the Price is Right still wants to air they need to find an older relatively handsome, charming, and smooth talking man to take over the show. They also need to find someone who will occasionally get accused of sexually harassing his female co-workers... I wonder if Joe Namath is available? He seems to fit the bill perfectly!

The show has been on for 35 years with the same host. I love Bob Barker as the host and can't picture anyone else in his role.

    80 bucks for a toaster?

My toaster cost 10 bucks. It makes the bread into toast.

Don't forget, it's Hollywood. A glass of water is $10. Game shows always over-inflate prices.

Re: Bob Barker to retire from Price is Right

I was on the show when I was 19 (a LONG time ago!) and I won a sailboat! I got 95 cents on the Big Wheel but some bimbo from Cherry Hill, NJ got a dollar!
It was very exciting and I was a nervous wreck! Bob Barker was not as I had imagined though. He was a bit nasty and rude to some of the contestants, (not me though.) The contestants are picked ahead of time....it is NOT random as it looks. They interview everyone outside before you even get into the studio. They look for crazy/quirky/bouncy people. I guess I fit the bill back then.

The first person out of Contestants' Row had to kiss Bob Barker. That was ME! His makeup was applied so thick, it looked like a mask. It was 110 outside that day and in the studio it was about 85. It looked like his face was going to slide down his neck.

VHS had just come out and I was lucky to have a Magnavox store videotape it for me to show customers how a VCR worked.

I don't think that this should be allowed. The government needs to step in and make him stay on the show.

I know, this is going to be very tough on you.

But for the good of humanity, The Price Is Right must continue, and I can't think of a better fit for Barker's shoes.

I can remember watching Bob Barker and "The Price is Right" through just about anytime in my life. Over the past 35 years that he's been doing the show, if I was at home sick, I always watched it.

Michael Irvin just called Bob Barker a quitter and a distraction. He's quitting on all of us.

Irvin said, "Imagine Bob coming up to you and saying, 'C'mon guys, let's play some Plinko!'"

    and then you'd be like,

"What are you talking about Bob? You're quitting on us. Why should we be excited about playing Plinko if you're quitting on us?"

    Freakin' quitter.

Was it him or some Bert guy (Bert Parks?) who'd gotten removed from hosting the Miss America pageants some 10-15 years ago? I know one of them sued, when some younger guys replaced him.

Anyway, if the Bingo-aged women love him, then no wonder he's been around so long. However, I must say that Dian Parkinson looked mighty fine in Hef's spread some time ago.

Well I did write it was,
    (a LONG time ago!)

Sorry about saying Bob Barker was nasty and wore a lot of makeup. I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. The funny thing about the VCR thing was that the demo was attended by a lot of people. I was a celebrity around here for a little while.
