I think we should start an effort in the minors to groom pitchers to go 7 or 8 innings. At least 7 should be expected. When scouting other Major League pitchers for trades and free agent moves we should look at guys who would look to finish games. The days of looking over your shoulder, when you have a lead after five should be over. If we started in this direction we would have to spend less money in the bullpen, less manager's time spent on pitching change strategy and a need for 1 or 2 less pitchers which would increase bench strength.
