    Little League Rules Question...

    Question:

    Remember, LITTLE LEAGUE RULES...not MLB....

    Runner on 2nd.
    Batter hits a foul ball.
Umpire gives a new ball to the catcher.
Catcher throws the ball back to the pitcher, wild.

Can the runner on 2nd, advance to 3rd on the wild throw back to pitcher?

In other words...the ball was dead on the foul ball.
When does it become live again? When the umpire gives a new ball back to the catcher?
Or when the pitcher gets the ball and stands on the rubber?

    LITTLE LEAGUE RULINGS only, please....

Without looking it up, the runner can not advance on the wild throw. It is a dead ball. (I've seen it called that way a few times)

So then when is the ball live again? Not when the umpire gives the catcher a new ball? But when the pitcher gets the ball and is on the rubber?

As I understand it it is when the pitcher toes the rubber.

I'll ask my Dad for a definite answer. He umpires little league games.

The ball is dead until the umpire gives the "play ball" signal by notifying the pitcher that he (or she) can throw the pitch. It'd be like a new pitcher coming in and the catcher throwing back wildly on his or her last warm up pitch.
