    Pics From Oregon

So last week Jim and I went to Oregon, which is why you might not have seen us around. The reason for the trip was that a close friend of Jim's was getting married, but we decided that since we had never been out West, that we would go a few days early to do some exploring. And we sure did have a lot of fun doing that!

    Here's a few pics:

Our base of operations was Portland. From there we took the 3 1/2 hour drive up to Seattle. Here's a view of downtown Seattle with Mt. Rainer in the background: http://www.aplaceformyphotos.com/blo...ves/Or1-59.jpg

One of the highlights of the trip was our visit to Crater Lake National Park. Crater Lake is unbelievable and photos don't really do it justice. Here's me there: http://www.aplaceformyphotos.com/blo...es/Or2-104.jpg

We also took a ride to the coast. It was sunny and gorgeous until we got to the coast. As often happens on the Oregon coast there was a thick fog that rolled in as the day went on, but we still got a taste of how beautiful the coast is. This through the mist that's starting to from near Cannon Beach: http://www.aplaceformyphotos.com/blo...ves/Or3-27.jpg

The wedding took place in Hood River, which is in the Columbia River Gorge: http://www.aplaceformyphotos.com/blo...ves/Or4-14.jpg

On our way back from Hood River to Portland, we checked out Mt. Hood: http://www.aplaceformyphotos.com/blo...ves/Or5-54.jpg

    Sure was a great trip!

It's a long plane flight for all of us East Coasters, but it's definitely worth a visit! For sure, there were incredibly beautiful sights every way we turned! From untouched forests to rivers to the Pacific Coast to gardens to mountains, and though we didn't go there, I believe Eastern Oregon may even have some desert.

Very nice pics. I was there about 6 years ago. I almost moved out there but it came down to $5000 difference between jobs.

Eastern Oregon and WA do have some desert. Not like Phoenix/Vegas, but it is desert in spots. Lots of rivers and canyons too.

Great shots, thanks. We're actually looking to get out to Seattle one of these days. Maybe next year when the Yankees are out there.

I couldn't visit Seattle without seeing Safeco, so I got really good seats for a Mariners game in the Spring, when their opponent - Oakland - wasn't doing so well, so I figured it would be bad vs. bad. I should have known that the A's would turn it on post-ASB though! It ended up being a blowout, so since we had a long trip back, we were already tired and still on East Coast time, we left after the 3rd inning. Safeco was really nice though . mmmmmmm.... Great pictures! I'll have to show these to my wife, a native of Seattle. When we were out there a few years ago, we just happened to be out on one of the maybe thirty days a year when you can see Mt. Rainier and Mt. Baker at the same time.

I've been to Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge areas, both as a kid, on family vacations. Those pictures brought back a lot of good memories.

    Thank you for sharing these!

Deborah - Great pictures as usual. The one of Mt. Rainier from Seattle is amazing. The Pacific Northwest is also on my list of places I'd like to visit some day.

So did you see the Timberline Lodge from the Shining by Mt. Hood? I just saw that again this week. I was flipping through the channels one night and there it was If I ever make it out there, I will stay there.. even though it's completely different than shown in the movie.

I'm pretty sure that's where that one picture of Mt. Hood was taken from. You're so close to the summit at that point, it looks like you could just leisurly walk up it.

Yes, as Jim said, that's where we were when I took those pics, the Timberline Lodge. It's really, really beautiful up there! From what I understand a lot of the rooms are on the small side there but the restaurant there, which we didn't get to eat at, is supposed to be excellent.

    Re: Pics From Oregon

The Pacific Northwest is beautiful country. I've been out there numerous times and to me it's kind of how I picture paradise. Everything is lush green, there's forest everywhere, the beaches are picturesque, the mountains are vivid and alive, and the food, coffee, and beer, oh the beer, are all fantastic. I envy you guys for having gone to SafeCo. I went to the Kingdome a couple times, but I've only been outside of SafeCo (while visiting the Pyramid/Thomas Kemper Brewery across the street, of course )

Great pics, Deb. You were lucky to get that one of Rainer. My uncle lived in Seattle for 4 months before the fog cleared enough that he finally saw it! But late summer/early fall is the perfect time to be out there.

I can't believe you were in Oregon..... and I didn't know. I love Cannon Beach, I was there. By the way, I think people who live in Washington.... and people who want to go to Seattle to watch the Yankees should throw a forum party together- I'll even organize it. I know we're all mad at the Yankees... but still.
