    Venting - Last Night's Game

Hope no one minds, but I have to vent for a minute and this seems like as good a forum as any.

Tuesday afternoon, I got 3 tickets to last night's game and brought my sister and my dad who is handicapped and in 55 years of being a Yankee fan had never been to a playoff game. So I took one of my few vacation days left we made the 3+ hour drive from Massachusetts, and sat at the Stadium for 4 hours before they finally decided to call the game. (Not before my dad nearly got run over by 2 people who were chasing after batting practice balls, not kids either mind you, actual grown adults).

So when I call this morning to see what I can do about the tickets (My dad just isn't physically able to make 2 trips like this back to back, and I can't get 2 days off in a row). I was told by someone at the ticket office that because this is a MLB Event, and not a Yankees Game, the tickets must be used today. When I commented that its a pretty ridiculous thing to do to their fans, making them pay twice to park, spend all that money at the stadium, etc. I was told by the ticket office representative, "Yah, because its MLB's fault that it rained".

So basically I'm stuck with 3 tickets. Good seats too. 2 in Section 335 and 1 in Section 329. "Jeffrey Maier" Seats.

Just awesome. But ESPN got their prime time slot right? East Coast games definitely need to be started at 8:19 on weeknights in October?

    Thanks for listening everyone.

I feel for you. If we beat the Tigers, I will be making a similar trip from Massachusetts next week with my father to see Home Game 2 of the LCS. A rainout would be a nightmare.

I also went last night and miss out by not being able to go today and understand your disappointment but I have reconciled myself to the fact that the rainout was the best thing from the team's pov. It would be nice if they gave you the opportunity to return tickets for resale. They could refund you 50% or something if the tickets are resold, MLB would make more money and at least those that have tickets going to waste would not be left with a total loss.

What's worse is, it says right on my tickets that I can use them for any home game for 12 months. Apparently that doesn't hold water in the playoffs, which tells me that they shouldn't be placing such language on playoff tickets.

I honestly probably wouldn't have gotten them knowing that I'd be S.O.L. if it god forbid, rained in October in the Northeast.

No one at either office is willing to make any sort of accomodations. I mean, its not like I can stop watching Major League Baseball, and start watching Super League Baseball or something like that, like I could start going to Papa Gino's if I had a bad Pizza Hut experience. They really don't care. We were 3 fans out of 4.1 million that attended this year.

Someone in the cattle herd line getting out of the stadium last night said, "we should all protest and no one should come tomorrow." I laughed and said "Yeah, right!"

As understandably disappointed as you might be, they do have a point. All ticket sales in the postseason are handled by MLB, so their policies would dictate what happens. And MLB can't control what happens with the weather.

As to your last point, it would have been much worse had the game started at 7:00 because then you would have had an hour or so to play an inning or two, and you would have lost your starting pitchers. It's not like you would have gotten the game in had they started an hour earlier, so I don't see how that's relevent.

Then again, you did say it was a rant... so relevency is irrelevent .

This is true - that's one of the good things I took away from the inconveniences of last night. It was good for the team, esp Moose - b/c you know a rain delay would not have been good if he had already come out.
I can't go either today, but was lucky to find someone to take them - so I was only out my humongous parking fee...

Me too. But I have the advantage of having Thursday off from work and my brother's house to crash at.

Eh, I'm not sure, but the ESPN guys thought that if they had started on time, they might have been able to plow through the whole game in time before it started pouring (doubtful, that being two hours of game time Im guessing) But, if they had started an hour earlier, that would have been about three hours...so I dont know. I couldn't really tell for myself the weather situation at all, as watching on TV isn't rather accurate to how bad the weather actually is.

had you made this thread earlier I would have made it at least slightly better for you as I woul dhave taken the tix off your ahnds and drove down from .. probally doesnt help much.. did you try and sell them last night around the stadium I gotta think the scalpers would have paid decently for them..

No, this is correct. If the game started at 7:05, it would have been close to over when the heavier rains started around 11. The rain that delayed the game at 8:20 wasn't prohibitive.

I hadn't thought about the scalper part, since the ticket says on it "good for 12 months...etc." It wasn't until this morning that I found out that's printed on there incorrectly.

I did manage to sell them on ebay for close to face. That makes me feel a little better about the whole thing.

And I did get to hit up White Castle before the game

Re: Venting - Last Night's Game

I've been waiting for this thread. So many posts so far on this thread that I want to quote and agree with. Last night shows how much disregard for the fans they have. I am so disapointed with the whole thing. They have the game on here at work downstairs and I haven't even gone to see any of it yet, let alone check the score online. I'm really pissed off about this.
I am thinking so many pissed off thoughts now I don't even know which one to write about.... I think I'll just read the thread again...
    Thanks.

Question(s) for anyone who attended the rainout last night...

How much money did you spend at the Stadium (not including the ticket or transportation to the game, but do include Parking)?

I'm trying to get an idea how much money the Yankees may have taken in for a non event.

    Parking $26
Food (Peanuts, 4 Sodas, and my first YS beer) $30.
    Program $10
    Poncho $12

Driving 8 Hours total + waiting 4 Hours at the Stadium to only see Paulie throw out the first ball: Priceless.

Somethings money can't buy, for everything else, ESPN and Fox have final say.

I'm not sure how much of this goes directly to the Yankees, and how much MLB distributes to owners that can't field a competitive teams. But I do know that when I spent the morning complaining to people, they kept telling me this is all MLB's policy.

Agreed! I understand that money and TV play a role, but sometimes the fans have to be taken into consideration just a little bit when unforseen events like rain take place.

    Money spent last night:

    38 dollars on 4 beers

My friend spend 28.50 on chicken fingers and 2 beers

Sorry to hear tha some of you didn't get to catch the game last night. I was upset that they didn't play last night. The rain wasn't that bad and they could have played through it if they wanted to. But MLB gets the final say.

Re: Venting - Last Night's Game

What I'd also like to know: was it also MLB's policy to close Gate 2 for the make-up game? I went from McDonald's towards Gate 2 (which is the gate I usually go in because it's the closest to the subway), and it was closed. My seat was all the way in LF (by the foul pole) and I got stuck walking all around the Stadium. Such crap.

And who numbered the gates? There is no gate 1, 3 or 5, so I don't understand 2, 4, and 6!

And since I'm already complaining: was the sound system louder than usual last night & today, or was it just me? I couldn't have a normal phone conversation because I could barely hear a damn thing, until I just gave up. The loudspeaker on my phone also did no good.
I spent the entire rain delay watching YES' programming that I've already seen 13 times.

I noticed something. When ever I go to a game, I always go to McDonalds before I get into the stadium.

The McDonalds service is always quick and I ALWAYS get a table. It's like they know I'm coming

$48 for parking - yes $48 - all my usual 'garages' were full & i needed to get the hell out of the car so they got me ... never got into the stadium b/c of being told before via text message there was a delay. spent about $12 for 2 beers at the bar before some nice male yankee fans purchased the rest of my beverages ;-) during the rain delay...
so $60 and i didn't see a lick of baseball.

Re: Venting - Last Night's Game

    See... the Parking bugs me.

Yeah the food & drinks are way too expensive, but you get to eat it and drink it. If you buy a shirt or hat, you get to wear them. You buy a poncho it keeps you dry. Even though there was no game, you still got something out of those dollars spent.

The Parking is a rip off. You park to see a game. If there is no game you should get your money back or free parking next time or some kind of discount on your next time parking OR SOMETHING.

    That's not right.

The parking was what bugged me too, and its the thing that would have been easiest for the team to refund in that particular situation, since I don't believe that MLB controls the parking lots for playoff games.

When I mentioned this on the phone to the Yankees ticket people, that was when the representative said, "Yeah, like its Major League Baseball's fault it rained".

If it says that on the ticket there should be some sort of class auction lawsuit - fans are held responsible for what it says on the stub - so should MLB. Unless there's something you signed or agreed to when you purchased the tickets.

Last year they had to travel cross-country and still played at 8PM.
The originally scheduled game was on Saturday at 4PM (or was it 1PM?), and the make-up game was at 8PM on Sunday. And that was the weekend, which usually doesn't involve work or school.

I agree. My biggest bi#ch (besides the Yanks not playing of course) is the parking. How can they get away with that? I always pay $13- to park at exit #6. I go Wed night and it's doubled. On the ticket it says: Send comments to: I definitely plan on doing that. I'm sure it won't make a difference but I'm going to vent just the same.

I found a spot on the street, and a good thing too. If I had paid to park I would have been really pissed.

Had I not been in the bleachers, I'm sure I would have dropped at least $20 on beer as well. As it was all I bought was a soda.
