I remember reading a long time ago that Nicholson was a big Yankee fan. You've got to remember he grew up in Jersey during their hey day when playing in the WS was a formality.

I remember reading a long time ago that Nicholson was a big Yankee fan. You've got to remember he grew up in Jersey during their hey day when playing in the WS was a formality.

My sister and her husband and my father were at Shea for the Yankee clincher in the 2000 World Series. Jack Nicholson was sitting two rows away from her. She said that he was jumping up and down cheering for the Yankees the entire game.

Personally I think this is pretty weak if true. The guy's an actor, he's supposed to inhabit a role, not balk because the character is different from him personally. Besides, he's a criminal, he should be wearing a Sox hat.

I recall Fox (GOD I HATE THEM) showing him on one of the playoff games. Why they do it, its pointless. Does anyone remember who they showed during the 2003 WS in the middle of the game and simply stopped showing the game? I think someone called a person who was in the suite and told him to get off so they could show the game.

That's always bugged me, anyway. First, they don't know how to spell "Socks". Secondly, they think the singular form of a misspelled word is still "Sox". Screw that.

FWIW, this is Crystal's explanation:

Crystal played a Yankee fan in When Harry Met Sally, but in City Slickers, he wore a Mets hat.

At the time, Crystal approached the Yankees to do Comic Relief Night at Yankee Stadium. Comic Relief was created by Crystal and fellow comedians Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg in an effort to raise money for America's homeless. The Yankees turned down the request, but the Mets did not. The Mets donated a large sum of money to Comic Relief and let the three comedians come out to Shea Stadium.

"We made a lot of money for the charity," said Crystal. "I said, 'You know what? I am going to wear this hat for them because they did this for a great cause.' And that's why I wore the Mets hat in that movie."

The Yankees had a reason, as I recall. They eventually DID have Comic Relief Night at Yankee Stadium with the three of them, which I was at. I still have the fake nose and glasses they gave out that night!
