Last season was so-so. Terry kept it interesting with his hidden idol, but otherwise it was a total "numbers game" and not much skill. But that's Survivor and the best player doesn't always win.

It was good, though not great. This season had two twists -- one, Exile Island and two, four tribes. The Exile Island was good; the four tribes lasted all of one episode. In Ep 2, they merged into two tribes. Pretty lame after all the hype about four tribes.

And then the person I thought should have won, did not.

Terry for his individual domination of the game and Shane for his crazy antics. I forgot Aras won already until I went back to the site.

I also say Survivor: Palau was the best season. What kept Survivor: Panama Exile Island going was Terry's run. It was good, but not spectacular.

My rankings of all the Survivor seasons

    1. Survivor: Palau
    2. Survivor: Guatemala
    3. Survivor: Vanuatu
    4. Survivor: Pearl Islands
    5. Survivor: Borneo
    6. Survivor: The Australian Outback
    7. Survivor: Marquesas
    8. Survivor: Panama Exile Island
    9. Survivor: All-Stars
    10. Survivor: Amazon
    11. Survivor: Africa
    12. Survivor: Thailand

Get ready for a segregated "Survivor." Race will matter on the upcoming season of the CBS show as contestants will be divided into four tribes by ethnicity. That means blacks, whites, Latinos and Asians in separate groups.

The announcement was made on CBS' Early Show. Host Jeff Probst says the idea "actually came from the criticism that 'Survivor' was not ethnically diverse enough." He says the twist fits in perfectly with what "Survivor" does, saying the show is "a social experiment. And this is adding another layer to that experiment." Probst says contestants had mixed reactions to the racial divisions.

This time the new Survivors are stranded on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. The castaways include a police officer, a heavy metal guitarist, an attorney and a nail salon manager. The new season of Survivor debuts September 14th.

Umm..yeah, so to fix complaints that Survivor isn't ethnically diverse enough, let's SEGREGATE THEM!!!

What a dumb idea, and that's the best I can say for it. At its worst, it is a very ugly concept.

Re: Survivor Season 13: Cook Islands

Rush Limbaugh used this for fodder on his talk show. His comments are about as non-PC as it gets, so hope no one here is offended. Just posted them to show the kind of reaction this gimmick provoked.
If anybody knows how to play the race game for all its entertainment value, it's our old friend Rush Limbaugh. On Wednesday, he took to handicapping segregationist "Survivor" by saying (I swear!) Hispanics "have shown a remarkable ability to cross borders, . . . they can do it without water for a long time, they don't get apprehended, and they will do things other people won't do."

Meanwhile, "The white tribe does run CBS, but don't forget CBS is run by a bunch of white people that have guilt over the fact that they run things."

And Blacks? Can't swim. "One of the largest studies of its kind," he said, "confirms that young blacks, especially males, are much more likely to drown in pools than whites."

And, oh yes, Asians. Let's not forget the Asian Tribe. "The Asians are probably the best at espionage, keeping secrets and so forth."

Re: Survivor Season 13: Cook Islands

Surprise!! A group of NYC politicians couldn't wait to grab some limelight for themselves by making a bigger issue of this than it really warrants.
"The idea of having a battle of the races is preposterous," City Councilman John Liu said Thursday. "How could anybody be so desperate for ratings?"

    [....]

Liu, who is Asian-American, said he was launching a campaign urging CBS to pull the show because it could encourage racial division and promote negative typecasts. He and a coalition of officials, including the council's black, Latino and Asian caucus, planned to rally at City Hall on Friday.

Re: Survivor Season 13: Cook Islands

Personally, I don't this will be a big deal for the castaways...but it's a big deal for viewers. And I think the problem simply will be who people 'root' for. There's always favorite players and favorite tribes, and I think the problem will be people rooting against a certain tribe or tribes, based on race. But within the element of the show, I don't think it matters how the tribes are broken up.

And last year's four tribe experiment (older men, young men, older women, young women) lasted all of one episode. I doubt this will last much longer, though I like the four-tribe idea.

i think we all know that the black team will win all reward challenges, the asians will be the smartest and have the best strategy, and the latino's will have major problems because of the Bloods/Crypts teammates. Its science

Probably 3 episodes or less. The show is getting so much heat now, that it is sure to get ratings.

They should have a Survivor for fans of different sports teams. The Red Sox tribe would probably live in squalor for months but still believe that their chief has a long-term plan for success.

So it starts tonight. I'll give it a couple of episodes but I haven't watched the last few because it's gotten pretty stale. The best players frequently get knocked out early and the hangers on who really contribute very little make it way too far.

I wonder if they could fix that so it doesn't happen so much.

Does anyone know when Amazing Race starts? That's my favorite now.

    Sunday night for Amazing Race.

As for Survivor, you're right. I hope some future players watched Big Brother and saw what happened there this summer. The power players got together and went after early most people who tried to stay under the radar ("floaters"). It's time some good players adopt that stratgey instead of trying to go after other power players.

    Sunday yeah! Thanks.

I don't watch Big Brother but I hope they do on Survivor what they did there-I'd have alot more interest if the players who made it far actually had some merit other than NOT being any good.

Re: Survivor Season 13: Cook Islands

Rarely in Survivor does the best player win, unless they can dominate the individual immunity challenges. It really is a good Survivor strategy. First, eliminate the most annoying people. Then the people who do nothing but lie on the beach getting tan. Then the strongest people who will be the biggest threats in the individual immunities. Of course if it's uneven after the merge, then it goes down tribal lines until one tribe is left standing, then eliminate the strongest threats remaining....and you get a decent person who most people can like, who nobody usually picked to win in the beginning.

They teams were not stacked fairly. The Asian team and the Hispanic team both have 3 men and both of those teams had two young jock types.

The African American and White teams are at a disadvantage, the younger guy on the AA team doesn't even appear to be that great of an athelete.

Holy crap! It's all ready on Season 13??

I honestly didn't know many people watched Survivor any more. I guess they wouldn't make it any more otherwise, right?

I think the entire time it's been in existence, I've seen about 10 episodes. They have two seasons per year, don't they?

I was in college during the first season. (Was it in Fall 2000? I can't remember.) A lot of students in one of my classes taped it since they had to study for tests the nights it was on TV. The day after the season ended, the professor started to talk about the previous night's finale. One girl screamed, "DON'T TELL ME THE ENDING! I HAD TO TAPE IT AND I HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET!" We all sat in stunned silence for a moment. I thought she was going to get hysterical. I think she would've snapped the neck of whomever dared to ruin it for her.

Awful season opener. The race divisions added nothing and with all the cutting in between four tribes, I couldnt tell one idiot from the other.

Just like any other "reality" show, the powers that be will do all the splicing, editing, manipulating they need to do to make the show interesting. It's just a matter of time before the race issue becomes a greater point of controversy because the powers will make it happen and it'll generate ratings.

When we were kids my mom would use that "technique" on us whenever we were sick. Usually she would do it on our backs/chests. For us it smells and hurts, so we would always try and get out of it if possible. So we would have big red marks on our backs/chest and our teachers (probably wondering if we were getting physically abused at home) would always ask us about it.

You do feel better afterwards though.

Not sure how much time actually elapsed between the time the chickens were shoved under the crate and the time she decided to lift it...but, seriously, how do you forget that the chickens are in there? Flicka is one stupid chick...first tribal council for the white tribe and she's gone.

Cowboy is a trip...I want to see him go far in this game. Don't care if he wins or not, just want to see more of his crazy ass.
