barring injury or a RIDICULOUS slump...there's absolutely no reason to think he won't get there next year. (he'll probably be 32 tho, not 31...his 32nd birthday is a mere 1 year 6 days away)

because every single thread on this forum is anti-AROD, and I don't like it...those "fans" are ruining one of the best players to ever play the game, theres a huge fiasco if he throws a ball bad or strikes out one time as if he's supposed to make every play clean and hit a HR everytime at the plate, it pisses me off

Amazing for a player to have an 'offseason' and still be on pace for .290/37/125, and still get all the hate that A-Rod does. Congratulations.

I don't disagree. All I'm saying is that he could have thrown it away if he went to first as well. It seems like everyone is assuming that if he went to 1st then it would have been a guaranteed out. The way he's been throwing lately, that obviously isn't the case.

How many throwing errors does he have to 1st this year (I don't know the answer)? Regardless, he probably makes like 1000 throws every baseball season, maybe even more, and at most he makes 10 or 15 throwing errors. That means he makes a good throw 98.5 or 99% of the time. So obviously he is capable of throwing a baseball across the diamond. People are killing him for the error, but he just as easily could have thrown it away if he went to 1st. That's my only point.

Who's to say that there isn't a scenario 4, where he throws the ball away on a throw to 1st? In that case, the end result is the same: no out recorded on the play, man on 2nd, run in. I think it's a mistake to assume that he would have had a better chance of throwing the guy out at 1st than at home.

I wonder how the rest of the team feels. Maybe they're all in favor of cutting ties with E-Rod as well.

Good point. I'm definitely a pessimist by nature, but I'll try to be more even handed from here on out.

As a start, with relation to tonight's game - Villone has been pretty awesome this year, and Torre is doing a nice job handling him. I wonder if Torre is giving consideration to making him the setup guy, seeing as how he's been the most consistent reliever, besides Mo, this year.

With regard to the Sox - their 4 and 5 starters are an absolute joke right now, Lowell is in for a lousy second half, I don't think Loretta is a very good ballplayer at all, and they've been blessed that Lester, Hansen, Papelbon and Delcarmen have pitched as well as they have.
