    Vintage Joe Torre BS.

Joe Torre being Joe Torre, says the Dodgers missed Manny being Manny in the clubhouse, even if it is apparent they didn't miss a beat on the field during Ramirez's 50-game suspension for violating baseball's rules on performance-enhancing drugs.

Number 5; the FMart faceplant is by far the best. Best part is after he gets up and like, looks around and kind of fixes the divot like he just hit a nine iron. So funny.

More hilarity. Pawtucket Red Sox heard that Reyes would be playing down in AAA rehabbing when Buffalo plays there this weekend. Will Carroll releases that on his twitter, the Sox advertise that Jose will be there - buy tickets, etc.

The news was circulating for a bit on the Internet, some fans getting excited- Jose finally starting rehab games, etc. Then reporters finally ask the Mets about it, they say its not true, no comment, etc. So people are confused. Turns out it was the great Argenis Reyes, who was just demoted to AAA and would be appearing in Pawtucket, not Jose.

21-8 before the suspension, 29-21 during it, 3-1 since he's back. Lower winning % during the suspension, but still higher than anyone's full-season winning % except us and Boston.

So the PawSox are pushing tickets based on a Will Carroll tweet? I'd be pretty pissed if I bought tickets and ended up with Argenis.

EDIT: Oh, never mind, I see Carroll got it from them. I'd still be pissed if I bought the tickets, though.

I'm still watching every game. Yes they are dreadful right now, but there have been much worse seasons over the years.. like the not too distant Alomar/Vaughn era. At least we still have Wright and Santana ::knocks on wood::

The Mets are supposed to be a good team, the Knicks are not. Big difference.

I could still watch Met games, but that many bad losses like that would kill me.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you, but I mean, people keep saying they just need to stay afloat and play with passion.

    1) They are probably playing with passion. But I could go on an ML field with all the passion in the eorld, does not mean I'll hit Roy Halladay. I'll match Halladay's passion, I'll match his competitve fire. But there is that whole talent thing. The Mets currently have none of that. It's not their fault, just that every year the bug catches one team and derails the season. This year, it's the Mets.

    2) People make it seem like staying afloat for a team with a AAA lineup and no real staff outside of Johan is reasonable. It is not. They don't have the team to stay afloat.
If we has CC Sabtahia and no one else to start, and Alex, Tex and Jeter on the DL for months on end, then we'd see a 3rd or 4th place team in the Bronx as well.
The Mets (somewhat akin to the Yankees or Sox) are a deep team because of their money. But you just don't go out and sign two complete sets of all stars. You have your frontline stars, and hope they stay healthy. If one or two get hurt, you back them up for a few weeks and still do OK.
But if you lose all your frontline guys for months on end, any team dies. Any team..

In short, I as a Yankee fan don't even take pride in the beating we gave you guys in Queens any more than a hunter would take pride in finishing off an animal already mortally wounded by a predator with a bullet to the head. There is no sport or satisfaction in that. I'll take the wins, but looking at what you put on the field, the only pride I had against the Mets was the Johan beatdown. Every other game was like a gimme.

Ehh it kinda depends. Its a little more depressing in the sense the expectations coming into the yr, but right now the team they are fielding isn't nearly the same team they were planning on having. Back in the 90s and stuff, I was so used to the losing it wasn't as much as a day to day hurt. But overall I'd certainly still take watching this team anyday than most of the 90s teams, and certainly over the Art Howe era teams.

On a Mets board they are saying Mets have just traded Ryan Church for Jeff Francoeur.

EDIT: AP wire now confirms. Web link:

    http://www.nj.com/mets/index.ssf/200...yan_churc.html

NEW YORK - Admitting he needed to "shake it up," Mets general manager traded outfielder Ryan Church and cash considerations to the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Jeff Francoeur Friday.

Francoeur, 25, hit .250 with 5 HR and 35 RBI in 82 games for the Braves this year. Church hit .280 with 2 HR and 22 RBI for the Mets.

Latest admission to the Mets' infirmary:

    http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Nieve carted off after straining right quad
Mets starter falls to turf after running out grounder in second

ATLANTA -- The Mets may have lost yet another player to injury. Fernando Nieve, their starting pitcher against the Braves on Sunday night, was carted off the field in the second inning after straining his right quadriceps running out a ground ball. The Mets provided no prognosis.

Batting with runners on first and second base and two outs, Nieve hit a pitch off the plate and high into the air. Opposing pitcher Javier Vazquez waited for the ball and made a hurried and accurate throw to first base to end the inning. Barely out, Nieve took a few obviously pained steps and tumbled to the turf after he crossed the base.

Mets trainers and manager Jerry Manuel moved quickly to his side, calling for a cart almost immediately. Tim Redding was summoned to replace Nieve.

How long does it take the Mets to give up 7 runs? 5-7 innings.

How long does it take the Mets to score 7 runs? 5-7 days.

Simple math. Unfortunately, it's not even fun trash talking these folks. Even their own fans, I don't talk about the state of their team. I just talk general baseball, or if I know who's starting that day.

I guess the spirit of September & October 2006 didn't last very long.

It really is pretty absurd. Sheffield got hurt on Thursday and hasn't played since, then yesterday Wright twisted his ankle after Diaz plowed into him trying to break up a DP (luckily he's ok to play), and then today Nieve goes down. Its more of a shock when they go a few days without anybody getting hurt.
