Go Yanks!
As a Mets fan, I definately see Freddy Garcia as our 5th starter this year.
I can easily see him going 12-8 with a 4.15 ERA, which I'll gladly take.
I hope Livan packed his snowshoes, because he'll need them in Buffalo in April.

Kinda makes sense to me..
Jerry Manuel is unpopular with fellow Grapefruit League managers for exercising his right to have the Mets' home games played under NL rules without a designated hitter.
The Tigers already have pleaded with Manuel to use the DH when they visit Port St. Lucie on March 25, but Manuel is sticking to his guns. He even had Oliver Perez bat second yesterday against the Marlins to work on his bunting.
"That doesn't bother me," Manuel said of the other teams' complaints. "We have to get ready for the season."

You're right, the Cards did use a DH (Jay) in that game, but strangely enough, the Mets didn't. Very odd.Originally Posted by hellonewman

The Wilpons and SNY are saying the rosary that Santana is going to be OK. The worst case scenario (TJS) likely means the Mets don't even get a sniff of the postseason.Originally Posted by CallOfTheCrow

Apparently it's a tricep issue, so it doesn't look related to TJS (if I were a Mets fan, I'd be more worried if it was forearm pain). But the Mets training staff was awful last year if you see the handling of Ryan Church and Billy Wagner (who I knew was destined for TJS when the injury was first reported), so if they kept the same people, I'd be a bit skittish.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The assignment was to pitch an inning of relief Monday and Tuesday. And Duaner Sanchez found that odd at this stage of Spring Training.
"I've never done that," he said Monday afternoon. And by afternoon Tuesday, he still hadn't. Rather than watch another inning from a pitcher they no longer regarded as the asset he once was, the Mets released Sanchez early Tuesday.
The decision, made late Monday, caught Sanchez by surprise and prompted a degree of disbelief in a clubhouse that had assumed he was one of the five definites -- he, Francisco Rodriguez, J.J. Putz, Sean Green and Pedro Feliciano -- in a bullpen that has yet to be defined fully. As late as Monday afternoon, before the meeting, manager Jerry Manuel suggested he liked Sanchez's experience as a New York reliever, and pitching coach Dan Warthen said, "I consider [Sanchez] part of our team."

http://www.nypost.com/seven/03112009/sports/mets/mets_cut_sanchez__manuel_blindsided_by_m_159031.htm
Manuel appeared to be embarrassed by the sudden turn of events, considering Sanchez’s release came less than 24 hours after Manuel spoke of the reliever being firmly in his regular-season plans.
Manuel admitted the decision blindsided him when it was delivered to the manager late Monday night in a meeting that Manuel said was brief and one-sided.
***This is awkward – I don’t blame Manuel for being embarrassed, given that he had just spoken with Sanchez about his plans for him in 2009. Omar should have discussed this with Manuel (even though it is solely his decision).

Which is why Omar isn't as good as a GM as Cashman because he makes some decisions like he's in a vacuum and leaves his manager looking foolish at times. Cashman likes to work and consult with his manager before acting.Originally Posted by Rocketbooster

There was alot more to that trade then just getting raped in the deal. Omar and everyone thought the Expos were gonna get contracted at years end. They were in shooting distance of the postseason and he went for it. He knew he overpaid, but he went for it it what many thought would be the Expos last season.Originally Posted by CanoForPresident

Hughes Rules: Pleading the Fifth

That's what happens when the ownership and the media sing his praises to the high heavens. Omar has a good relationship with the press and they make him out to be near-perfect. Thus, he probably believes what he reads. The Wilpons seem to always blame everyone for the team's failings except Omar. In essence, the man gets all of the credit and none of the blame. My word, the Mets have collapsed two years in a row and it barely raises the pulse of the mediots. The Yankees miss the playoffs ONCE in over a decade and it's the end of the world. In the meantime, people like Ken Davidoff make snarky comments about Cash all the time in their columns......and this on top of the virulently anti-Cash Daily News.Originally Posted by Yankees1962

What the hell are you talking about? Omar is alot of heat and blame for the Willie firing and the way the last two seasons ended.Originally Posted by Rocketbooster

The majority of the heat Cashman took this offseason was handing 40% of the rotation with Hughes and IPK when Santana was sitting right there. I'm not getting into the Santana debate, but I think it's more then fair to question Cashman for not getting the best pitcher in the league after Hughes and IPK fail and watching Rasner and Ponson start games.Originally Posted by Rocketbooster

With all due respect, if you missed all the negative backlash thrown at the Mets and Omar the last couple of seasons then you missed a LOT. Omar took PLENTY of flak for the collapses. He got raked over the coals for the Randolph firing. And well before that Omar was far from untouchable to the media as at one time they even spread a ridiculous theory that he's a racist who didn't want any non-Hispanics.Originally Posted by Rocketbooster
I have to agree with Rocketbooster-Davidoff and Heyman consistently sing Omar's praises to high heavens with very few 'bashings' after the collapses, and while the Mets, as an organization, took a lot of heat (deservedly) for the Willie firing, I recall very few people calling out Omar individually for it.Originally Posted by LuckyLopez

This kid I know, who's a Mets fan, texted me this morning saying "wow the Yanks got crushed by the Orioles, it's just funny after all the money they spent".
Gotta love Mets fans and their inferiority complex; they just have to take a stab at the Yankees every chance they get. Not that I take any of it personal.
I don't even have a problem with the Mets, but many of their fans are ridiculous with their petty jealousy.
Its funny because the Mets have won most of their openers for like the last 39 years, and what have they really accomplished in that span?Originally Posted by CT_Bomber

The Yankees are judged on on much higher standard.....they are the Gold Standard of Baseball.....The Yankees missing the playoffs is big news ....on the other hand the mets making the playoffs is big news.....They should not and will not be treated the same by the press.
