Thread: The New York Mets Thread

  1. #2851

Re: The New York Mets Thread

There are good fans & idiot fans for any team. I hated the Mets as a kid, because the Yanks were on their slide while the Mets pitched their way to the 69 championship. You want to talk about hearing CRAP from Met fans ?? It was a very difficult time for Yankee fans. But over time, history prevails. The Yanks are the TOP sports franchise, so it's no wonder many feeble fans of Mets, Red Sox take delight when we lose. I consider it an honor ! When "losing" is the EXCEPTION to the rule ! I like to remind them that the Yanks have "lost" more WS, than both the Mets & Sox have won, combined...

    OK.

It saddens me that the Mets have won twice as many World Series clinching games at Shea Stadium as the Yankees have.

The only bad thing of the Mets collapse is that it's right before three days off -- I cannot reciprocate the trash talk I've received the last few weeks.

Also, if anybody ever finds out when the demolition of the dump is scheduled to take place, please let me know, I have a decent view of it from campus.

I was at a wedding in NJ on Saturday night and the Mets fans were so pumped after Johan's gem. I told my fellow Yankee fan buddy it was going to make Sunday even better. 2 years in a row!!

A fitting end to their dump of a stadium!!!!

FWIW, in Steve Phillips' chat on Friday, he speculated that Jerry Manuel would not be managing the Mets next year if they were eliminated.

    I think that's pretty much a guarantee he'll get a big contract.

I was listening at around 11:00 this morning and (I believe) Jerry Coleman was on and proposed a trade.

Royals get: Carlos Delgado (Mets signed him to trade him), Aaron Heilman, and Nick Evans
    Mets get: Joakim Soria

Soria would be the closer obviously.

Highly doubt something like that would happen, but it would be interesting.

Oh, and Francesa is ripping the Mets even more right now.

Saying how Wright never comes in the big spot. He then played Reyes comments after the game, and he goes "Well, we didn't learn anything there.."

The core of the Mets team is set for 2009: Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Delgado and Santana. I would not get rid of any of those players. I think they will be looking to add a pitcher such as Burnett or Sheets (not CC). They also need some corner outfielders who can hit....Bobby Abreu won't even have to go house hunting.

Mark my words...If Abreu is not a Yankee, he'll be a Met.

I would trade Reyes in a second. He is not a smart baseball player, he choked in the 2006 post season, choked in September last year and choked again this year. If there is a more overrated player in baseball I'd like to meet him. Move him now while his stock is still high, because he is Raul Mondesi pt 2 IMO, all tools, no brain, out of baseball within the next 5 years.

He was saying last night you've got to trade one of them, which I don't think is a bad idea. If he's saying Wright, I disagree, even though some of his reasons seem sound. Reyes is very overrated.

Totally disagree. It's true that the Mets bullpen has been horrendous this year and are to blame for some losses. However, how many games this year did the Mets score a few in the first or second inning and then not score again for the rest of the game? It seems like too many to count. The offense definitely needs help too IMO.

The Mets were 2nd in the NL in runs scored. I agree the offense needs to add a player or two, but to dismantle the core is extremely reactionary.

He's growling because you can still see that Yankee tombstone against the wall behind Minko in which some Mets fans made up last week to signify the Yankees not making the playoffs since 94.

If by dismantling you mean trading just one of those players away, I'm not so sure. Obviously I don't think that the core needs to all be traded away but trading one away, if the deal is good, wouldn't be a bad idea. This is the second straight year the Mets have choked away a ton of talent. Something's not clicking. And it's not all the bullpen's fault.

I heard they wanted to trade Hardy, so maybe they fill needs with a Hardy trade and then put Reyes there? You're probably right. Come to think of it, they wanted to trade Hardy because they have this SS in the minors (who's name escapes me) who is supposed to be pretty good (especially in the field).

David Wright is a class act, IMO, as well as a great baseball player. The Mets would be foolish to trade him.

Reyes, I agree, is another story.

Little known fact: Every Met is branded with a stylized "M" on the left buttock before they're issued a uniform.

Next time you meet a Met on the street, ask him to drop his trousers and show it to you. They're all contractually obligated to show you.

Oh I heard some good ones on FAN today. One guy claimed that the Marlins and Nationals were fired up to beat the Mets because they still had a grudge with Willie and were taking it out on Manuel and the Mets and some bozo wrote an article that if the Mets played in the NBA, they'd be in the playoffs. So would the Yankees, but neither of them do, so who cares?
