Of course the Mets ERA would be depressed if their pitchers got to face Florida and DC 40 times.Originally Posted by Mets Fan

He's obviously a troll, its pointless to argue, we should all just leave this thread until he goes away.

Mets fans have a right to get giddy. They are a hot team and they're playing well. I have strong feeling that come playoff time, if they happen to make it to the Series (which, obviously, is not guaranteed), they may be embarassed. They have an AL style offense, but they're starting pitching is a huge question mark. I don't understand how Mets fans can be so puffy chested when they're supposed top two starters are on the DL--1 with reasonable injury concerns and the other one in the midst of a second half slump. I was listening to sports radio and I heard Met fans really confident about the fact that Trachsel and El Duque are legit 3-4 combo. Unless the game of baseball throws us a curveball this year, I expect a huge disappointment from the Mets. Bullpen and lineup are above average. But they're starting rotation is really not that good. Perhaps I'm just looking at the rotations of the AL teams and that's why I feel that way, but things just don't add up. I really find it hard to believe that a Mets fan can be confident in winning it all when they're starters are a huge question mark.

Lesson #1 for all Mets fans to read. Since this is your first time in a long time that you are still around in August, we will need to get you guys caught up real quick

as a Yankee fan, I drool over the prospect of John Maine on the opposite pitching mound.

I remember the morning after the Mets got smoked by the Red Sox. Boy were Mets fans depressed, saying how they need to get starters. That's when the questions really began to surface, could the Mets, let alone any team handle an AL team if they were to go to the World Series? I just don't understand what has changed their opinion since then.

ERA+ takes the stadium out of the equation. Using ERA means there is no difference between a pitcher in Colorado (hitters park) or a pitcher in SD (pitcher's park).Originally Posted by Mets Fan

Nice try. Please don't try and engage fans here in a baseball debate until you know anything about the aformentioned sport.
And that fact that you want Reyes swinging for the fences just makes me laugh.
more proof that the NL is awful: Cardinals getting owned by Dave Williams
and the Mets just signed Kelly Stinett
picking up Yankees trash
and then Keith Hernandez goes on a tangent on how this move shows that the Mets want to win

just watching the mets until the yankees come on at 10, thanks though
Kelly Stinnett is going to hit a goahead homer in the 16th inning of Game 7 of the World Series off of Randy Johnson to put the Mets ahead, you just know it![]()
Oh, and where did Cardinal fan go to? The Mets need someplace to put all the dirt they swept out of Shea Stadium tonight.
The Yankees have picked up castoffs from several different teams, with varying degrees of success.Originally Posted by ryanm1058123

I'vebeen held corrected by some of the ERA+ stats, but I can't help but think that some would still argue the Mets are woorse than the Yanks if the Mets went on to win the whole thing.

Tied with Cincy for the division lead.
It is fun to be in a pennant race again, may the best team win.
Yeah, last night was a pretty pathetic loss. Not that the other two were any less demoralizing, but once again, a salad tossing lefty kills the Cardinals.
This game was awful to watch.
Belliard is not a leadoff hitter.
Taguchi should not be in the starting lineup ever, IMO...and he should definitely never bat in front of Pujols.
Marquis...*sigh*
Pujols is still expanding his zone.
Our outfield defense is bad.
Tyler Johnson against a righthanded hitter should never, ever, happen...and his recent lack of control/effectiveness against lefties isn't exactly encouraging either.
I wish our owner was a stripper who's husband had died before the beginning of the season and our players could use a cardboard cutout, with ever-so removable pieces, of hers as inspiration.
Glavine is set to start the September 1st game:
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5904820Left-hander Tom Glavine will return to the Mets' rotation next Friday in Houston, FOXSports.com has learned.
Glavine, 40, had wanted to pitch Wednesday in Colorado, but the Mets will start left-hander Dave Williams that night, giving Glavine additional time to recover.
It's all because of the roster move. They'll DL Glavine retroactively, and then activate him on the day he's eligible which coincidentally is that September 1st game.
They really don't need him right now.Originally Posted by SI Baseballman

He fleeced the Pirates.
I don't know what they were doing to Perez in Pittsburgh but he looks filthy tonight.
Funny this comes on the day that Scott Kazmir was placed on the DL....
Perez looks more than filthy.
It's the water in Pittsburgh. No, wait, they just can't raise young pitchers. I agree, Minaya should turn himself in.

If you'd watched, you'd still be impressed. It was one bad pitch. And yeah, he's certainly erratic. But he's 25 and the stuff is there.

How? He isnt throwing the ball any better than he was a year ago. He's had injury problems and i highly doubt he'll go back to throwing his 98 MPH heater.Originally Posted by Screech
