    Cleveland Runs Up The Score

I was out in the city tonight for the 4th. Unfortunately the bar we were at played the entire game. It looked as though Cleveland really ran up the score. They're up 13-1 and sending guys from 2nd on a single. Personally I thought it was BS. Not to mention former pitcher Jason Johnson throwing at our guys. Personally I was pretty pissed that none of our pitchers even gave them any chin music. It was disgusting. Cleveland is now on my s-list.

We got our asses handed to us. Not much to complain about after that.

If I hit a single with a runner on second, I would want that runner to try to score so I can get an RBI. Regardless of the score

Re: Cleveland Runs Up The Score

Our job is to stop the other team from scoring. No one is going to feel sorry or show any mercy on us.

I thought the game didn't start yet. Wasn't that batting practice?

How dare runners score from second on a single. There is a reason they call it "runners in scoring position".
My galleries, critiques and comments are welcome.

Re: Cleveland Runs Up The Score

Scoring from second on a single is not running up the score.

We got our asses kicked, that's all. We did it to the Mets the other night, the Indians did it to us tonight. It wasn't the first time for either outcome, and it won't be the last.

The great thing about baseball is that regardless of how much you win or lose by, tomorrow is another day.

I had no problems with what the Indians did.

The pitching, except for Villone (who may be their second best reliever and needs to be used in high leverage situations), just sucked.
    Nothing to say

I disagree. The Yankees just got whupped. It wasn't like they were stealing bases. They pulled some of their starters.

    There's a game tomorrow. Let's hope for a win.

You got a beef if they were tagging up from 2nd and going to 3rd or stealing bases.

Scoring from 2nd on base hits is not running up the score.

We're terrible fans. We have (or had) a thread counting down to 1000 runs, and we (well, one of us) accuse another team of running the score up? How ................ty

Not to be an ass or anything, but you sound like a sore loser.

As for running up the score, if I was the opposing manager and my team took a big lead I would be like "we will promise not to try anymore, if you promise not to score any more runs", I mean look what happened when we faced Tezas, comebacks like that dont happen often, but they do happen. Id rather have the opposings teams fans be pissed off at me than to blow a huge lead.

They werent running up the score. They were just taking advantage of our pitiful pitching.
After they went up 14-1, I just couldnt watch anymore.
The only good thing that came out of this is boston lost as well so we didnt lose any ground.

tonite a few things came clear:
    • no offense
    • Chacon is worse than most minor leaguers
    • Beam needs more seasoning
    • we need a power hitter - NOW
    • Proctor has lost his touch
    • Ca$hman has probably seen enough and won't sleep tonite
    • a big trade will happen by this weekend
    • this edition is more like NY Clippers than NYY - that won't work - this team is hemmoraging and about ready to flat line by the time the AS break arrives

You do realize we shut the Mets out, allowing only 2 base runners on Friday night, right?

And you do realize we put up 16 runs by, what, the 6th inning after being down 4 in the 2nd on Sunday?

Last night we had an off game, tonight we were miserable. Games like these happen. Our pitching isn't great, but it's certainly not this bad, same with the offense.

good for cleveland, run up the score, win some games and try to get to .500 - the 06 version of the bombers is pretty f'ing terrible at this point. who knows what would have been with the deck, sheff, pavano, cano, etc - right now the team is an absolute shell of its self. all they can do at this point is stay close to boston...hang in there yanks fans.

Take away the one game outburst on Sunday night....and this offense has been bad for awhile now

    July 1 (182 at-bats):

In a game where your contract is based almost solely on numbers, you'd better believe runners are going to score on routine plays. None of them went the extra mile (stealing bases, hit and run), its just "playing the game right"

Re: Cleveland Runs Up The Score

What an ugly game. I can't really say Cleveland was running up the score. It's not like they were tagging up on fly balls, they hit 6 homers. What's the old saying? I'll stop trying to score runs when you stop trying to.

Of course maybe Cleveland should have saved some for Wednesday's game.

  27. #27

Re: Cleveland Runs Up The Score

Given the ineptitude of Yankee pitching outside of Villone, the Indians probably couldn't have avoided scoring if they'd benched every player and replaced him with random old ladies from the crowd.

Still, ugly as it was, I'll take a good old-fashioned butt whupping to a one-run heartbreaker.

Agreed - they took advantage of our crappy pitching last night. It was painful even listening in the car. I was glad I wasn't around a tv set - the actual visual would have been worse.

On another note, if things were reversed, Yanks would have done the same things the Indians did. IMO.

Cleveland was trying to run up the score, and it's just appalling. It reminded me of how disgusting it was when Texas had the audacity to score another run against us when they were already up comfortably 9-1. Oh, wait...

    Exactly.

If I were the Indians, I'd try to score as many runs as I could. Taxes the bullpen for the next game.

It only counts as one game. No matter how bad the score is, no matter whether it's 20-1 or 2-1, it's only one loss. And the Red Sox lost as well so no harm no foul.

I think the worst thing about losing last night and the night before is that we had a chance to close the gap between us and the Sox. We could be two games behind, not 4. It was unusual for the Sox to lose two games in a row to TB. I'll be surprised if the Sox lose tonight.

Agreed that the score did not matter but the Blue Jays won and the bullpen was taxed so there is plenty of harm done.

I witnessed that crap first hand last night. Great seats, awesome park, and that was it. The only player I took issue with was Belliard. The brother was swinging from his heels in the 7th. Guess he needs to pad his stats since he might be out of a job next year.

Lots of NY fans there, but not much to cheer about.

I agree........and Toronto won so they are now tied for 2nd with the Yanks. The Yankees could very well be in 3rd place by the time the All Star break hits.

The players of my youth! Loved Dwayne Kiper and Rick Manning (who does a really good job as an Indians analyst; not afraid to criticize the team).

As for Tuesday's game, this was the team Cleveland thought it was getting all year. Nice to see a glimpse of it the last 4 games. I found the title of this thread amusing given what happened in the Mets/Yankees game on Sunday night. I watched it yesterday and they were just pounding the ball. It wasn't like they were stealing bases when the game got out of hand.

Yup, this pretty much sums it up. Last night was brutal, but it's just one game and there is nothing gained by pointing fingers at Cleveland. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the Indians offense has a major hangover tonight.

A win by 20 runs or by 1 run looks the same at the end of the year. They won't be celebrating when they're on the sidelines during the playoffs.

Born and raised in Youngstown myself (St. E's!) and still there! Small world--except we always rooted against the Yankees. Kiper now does games for the Giants. Were you at the Stadium for Len Barker's perfect game? The Stadium was practically empty but the Cleveland world claims to have been there! LOL
