Will those who say A-Rod isn't clutch shut up now?

That was quite a nice walk off homer he just had in a must win game. In the 12th inning. CLUTCH.

exactly, this isnt going to erase his whole season but I have a very strong feeling this is going to be the start of a huge tear where he carries the team.

Congrats to A-Rod...he just has to keep up the hitting now.

he has to do this on a consistent basis. But I will say that I have never been more proud of him, than I am right now.

He really needed that. More than any other Yankee, he needed that.

There is no clutch. It was just a great homerun hitter hitting a homerun to win the game. You think A-rod tried harder in that AB than his other ABs? No, he just happened to hit a homerun like he's done many times before. Just like every other hitter in baseball.

It will never be enough. The next time he goes 0-fer or fails to drive in a RISP people will forget and he'll go back to being un-clutch.

You're right, goinfor27, it needs to be consistent but - whatever ... I am happy for A-Rod and more importantly happy we won the game. To lose this game would have been devasting.

Did you see A-Rod's reaction? Everytime he says things don't bother him I will think of his reaction today. (First of all, he could have toted himself out the batter's box faster. He almost pulled a Manny... !) He could do a Rolaids commercial ("How do you spell relief?")

Please, it was off some scrub Sosa. Let's see him do it against a REAL pitcher in the bottom of the 23rd inning in the World Series down by 77.

CLUTCH HR....we needed this win badly, and Alex needed a game-winning HR like this.

Hopefully now he relaxes, gets hot, and gets his numbers back up to the level they should be at.

    Jesus Montero since June 1 (286 at-bats):
    .325/.386/.605/.991
    July 1 (182 at-bats):
    .348/.417/.658/1.075

That would be too easy. It has to be against a team of 9 David Ortizs, all of whom get to bat every time A-Rod bats, with the pitcher Schilling with all his sliders turned way up in XBOX style. Oh and they play in three football stadiums.

Even money says that if A-Rod has an 0-fer in the Mets' series, the boo birds will re-appear. It sucks, but it's the truth.

Alex needs to put this team on his back and carry it till we get some guys back.

It's imperative that he and Giambi consistently produce.

No, but I think that the pressure on previous occasions made his swings long and therefore he did poorly.

I think "clutch" is somewhat overrated....at the same time people who say "clutch hits" dont exist, have obviously never played any sport.

Some players are able to perform better under pressure and in big spots....then others.

I'm very happy for him. This was a big personal achievment and I'm glad he finally got the "monkey of his back"

Kluivert4Ever why are you quoting Cher in your signature? Could you explain what that has to do with A-Rod because I don't get it?

Exactly, its not about trying hard because they try to do their best any time they are up there. But some players have a tendancy to change their approach in a pressure situation.

Exactly. Anyone who has played a sport at a fairly high level has seen it. I played 4 years of varsity baseball in HS, and 3 years of varsity baseball in college. I had teammates who loved being in those situations. Other teammates were scared to death...and were tenative up there as opposed to relaxed and confident in earlier ABs

We have to see him hit a walkoff at night, there's less pressure during the day.

Agreed. Trying too hard makes you tense up, grip the bat tighter....and messes up your swing.

The man has had a lot of chances to put games away over the past few months and finally came through. He deserves all the credit in the world for that.
In order for this team to win, he needs to get a hits in key situations. This was a great start and should be a sign of things to come.

Giambi's HR was very clutch, but he doesn't have to prove to anyone that he is a clutch player. Hopefully, this is the turning point to Arod's season and career as a Yankee.

Nah, 3-2 count in the WS, Game 7 in extras. Then and only then will he get respect.

Of course, if he does a "Manny" or "Ortiz" and admires the HR before it drops, out come the boo birds again!!!

haha...like I said in the other thread...I actually missed the bottom of the 12th! I finally had to stop watching and go to work!

But I just watched the replay now on MLB.TV
    Great stuff...
