Wow, did anyone else hear Pedro's postgame comments? He basically said that losing the game wasn't as important to him as the reception he got, and that he'd won "his game" (the fans cheering him).
I can't imagine that will go over well with his teammates...
I'm a girl.

Wow -- I know there was an error, but Pedro still kind of looked like he "threw" the game a little. I kind of wanted us to get him when he was a FA instead of trading for RJ, but if that's true, thank god!Originally Posted by Runan

Especially in the context of the whipping received by his teammates.
With all the things that came out of Pedros mouth tonight, it was best that the Yanks never signed him when he was a free agent. Geez, how can he say that losing a game tonight wasn't as important as the reception he got. What a slap in a the face for the team that he is now pitching for
Or... maybe the Sox are a good team that's playing as well as they're capable right now, and the Yankees, depleted as they are, just aren't a good team so they're losing to the teams the Sox are manhandling...Originally Posted by dabomb2045

That's not really what he said. I don't remember the "his game" line, but if he said it then it's out of context here. He said that it was his fault for not having his best stuff, and that he's going to work the rest of the season to make it up to his team. Then he said that, despite that , he was very happy about his reception and would remember it for a long time. That's far different from saying that he would have chosen to loose in order to get cheered.Originally Posted by Runan
edit: ok, looking at it again he did say "i'm not dissapointed," which isn't really appropriate. Still, he really seems to be saying it more as "this was still a great life experience for me personally" than "this is what I would have chosen." Not exactly the smartest thing to say, but watching it it just doesn't seem to me like he's throwing the mets under a bus, so much as just admitting that he screwed up but mentioning the positives too.
No, you're wrong. The Mets handing the Sox the series is just a small part of a vast, league-wide conspiracy to somehow deprive the Yankees of their god-given right: Another World Series title.Originally Posted by Lucen

Mets.
I didnt expect them to bend over the way they've been doing thus far. I expected an actual series.
theyd rather get swept. cant help the yankees. seriously pedro today was borderline disgrace. wasnt in the game at all. that play on the ortiz comebacker was a joke. of course he didnt pitch bad on purpose, in the sense that he wasnt thinking "i hope the red sox score 6 runs off me in 3 innings" but his head wasnt in the game at all.Originally Posted by CallOfTheCrow
if mets fans were actually mets fans instead of just yankee haters, theyd probbaly be pissed that pedro didnt show up at all today and was content with losing. they should just hope they dont face the red sox in the world series. the sox fans will give pedro a standing ovation in game 1 and he wont be able to pitch.
funny thing yesterday. Mets fans.... they amaze me. Spoke to 4 different Mets fans who all felt the same way. in a nutshell....
Me: "stupid Mets."
Met fan: "I was happy with the Mets losing because it hurt the Yankees".
Me: "You're okay with the Mets losing because it hurt the Yankees?"
Met fan: "Philly lost both games so the Mets gained a half game."
Me: "But the Mets lost, aren't they the team you root for?"
Mets fan: "yeah but it's okay because it keeps the Yanks out 3 1/2 games"
Me: "Don't you want your team to win every game?"
Mets fan: "yes, unless it hurts the Yankees"

IT'S THE PITCHING, STUPID!

This attitude actually makes sense when your lead in the division is so big that losing games really doesn't matter, and even more so when the team trailing you gets swept in a doubleheader. The Mets are basically a lock to make the playoffs at this point, so now Met fans can root for the Yankees to miss the postseason.Originally Posted by Hitman23

I'm sorry but being okay with your team losing in order to hurt a team that has nothing to do with where you are in the standings, simply stated, is f*cking retarded. The only time the Mets should be worried about hurting the Yanks is this weekend. Period. It's a terrible attitude to have.Originally Posted by UncleSam

The comments I heard from Pedro were "I dont even think a win would have meant as much as the cheers from the crowd".
That's being an ambassador to the game in a place where Dominican flags waved for almost a decade and any teammate that takes offense to that is just plain short-sighted.
Pedro filled Fenway and pretty much every park he pitched in while he was in Boston, whats so bad about tipping the thanks back to the fans? Isnt that kind of what we look for more players to do?
Oh wait, right, Pedro's a diva, its bad, bad!
Wow. I guess Mets fans are a different breed. I stand corrected.Originally Posted by Hitman23

No, I doubt they're okay with those developments and they didn't say that in the conversation you referenced. They're only okay with the Mets losing because it hurts the Yankees. If you told me they went into the game rooting for the Mets to lose solely to hurt the Yankees, then I'd think it's bizarre.Originally Posted by Hitman23

Please show me the Met fans who are sitting around saying, "I hope we lose. I hope we lose." All they're saying is that it's a nice consolation when losing hurts the Yankees. It lessens the blow. Perfectly understandable.Originally Posted by Hitman23

Exactly. With that big of a lead you can worry about whatever you want. Heck, the fewer innings Pedro pitches, the better. It'll keep him fresher for the postseason. When you've got a 12 gmae lead in June, it's just not that big of a deal to lose a game or two. Nor is it a big deal if your rookie outfielder misses a couple of balls in a park that he probably won't see again unless it's in a World Series. Seriously, the Mets main focus the rest of the way should be to keep everyone healthy and be ready and focused when the playoffs roll around.Originally Posted by VerMonsteR
