I just posted in the other thread about this very subject. If you, as a Yankee fan, root for the Sox, you're essentially hoping that you lose ground in the standings. Why would you NOT root against the Sox? You may hate the Mets, but their success has zero impact on the prospect of a Yankee postseason the way a Sox win does.
How could you not root for the Mets?

We've had threads about ex-Yankees on ATM, not ITL, so who woulda thunk that a series between the Mut$ and the Sawx would be under the Yankee forum. Especially ITL, which is about Yankee games and performance.

Why would any Yankee fan root for the Red Sox? Of course we're all going to be rooting for the Mets.
The only time I would ever root for the Sox is if they were playing a team that need to lose in order to help the Yanks into the post season.
I will happily root for the Mets.

Even in 1998, when the Red Sox won the wild card, I still rooted for them against the Orioles because at that time I passionately hated Baltimore for 1997 and because of what Benitez did to Tino. But that year was an exception because the Yankees had no real competition up until the ALCS.Originally Posted by Hitman23

Have to root for the Mets, but if the Yankees win all their games, the Mets getting swept is a delicious possibility. I used to never understand all the people who said wait until the Mets are halfway decent for a while and you'll hate them just as much as the Sox. I fully understand now. I don't hate the Mets the team, I couldn't care less, but I hate the Mets' fans, I have 10x the respect for Red Sox fans as I do for Mets fans.Originally Posted by Jersey Yankee

Let's see. I don't dislike the teams themselves as much as I dislike the fans of both the Mets and Sox. They are similar in many ways. A lot of their passionate "hate" towards the Yanks and their fans stems from years (decades) of having an inferiority complex that no championship of their own can wipe out. Generally, they are a pretty annoying, obsessive bunch.
Let's face it, the Yankees are the Yankees as the Canadians are the Canadians, Celtics the Celtics; all representing and synonymous with their respective sports, no matter how well or poorly they are playing. There's bound to be jealousies from other fans, but the Mets and Sox fans take it to another stratosphere.
But, I'll always root for a NY team over any team from any another town, so I'll root for the Mets. Plus, the Mets aren't playing in the AL East, so they have less of an impact on the Yanks. Again, I kinda like and follow the Mets. I'm thrilled that Pedro pitches in NY. It's just that many of their fans are like common gnats who I like to shoo away.
I know, I'm basically saying there's a silver lining even if the Sox win.Originally Posted by Sam18

In my perfect world there would be three rain-interrupted, 20+ inning, 10 hour long Met victories (or maybe a game that has to be rescheduled in September at great inconvenience).![]()

I don't want any game moved to September, because by then the Mets will already have the division clinched and it won't matter to them. I'm all for rain interruptions and 20+ inning Mets wins though.Originally Posted by Socal Pinstriper
Of course I'm rooting for the Mets. Btw, wouldnt be interesting to see Ortiz or Manny hit a HR off Pedro...stare at it and take an hour to circle the bases, then see Pedro flip them in their next ABs??
I'd pay to see that
Jesus Montero since June 1 (286 at-bats):
.325/.386/.605/.991
July 1 (182 at-bats):
.348/.417/.658/1.075

I'd rather Pedro K them every time up and then do the points at you thing he does at them. And I want Wright to squeal like a little girl when Reyes hits a game tying grandslam off of Papelbon. Not asking for too much.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

There's no such thing as winning all your games, at least in my world. You win some you're not expected to (like that game about 14-13 when Posada hit a 2-run jack in the 9th) and you lose some you hadn't expected (going from a 9-2 blowout to losing an 11-9 squeaker).Originally Posted by Yankees13
If the Mets get swept, then Boston will be very confident, their fans (fantasizers?) will be letting off steam, talking smack to us. Not necessarily here, but in person. If the Sawx get swept, they've only earned bragging rights, as they've actualy helped us. To me, the Met$ sweeping Boston is a win-win scenario; Boston sweeping the Mut$, since not only have their beaten a team also on a tear, then we have to win all of our games as well. Even against Atlanta, a sweep isn't always automatic.
Three cheers for the Mut$ie$!!!![]()

Hell yes, the "points at you" thing? That made me so sick....it still does whenever I see Manny doing it in the outfield. Every game. I'd love to see him K them and do that. Obviously I want the Mets to win, and the Yankees too, so that we can hop over the Red Sox in the standings.Originally Posted by Sam18

This performance by Pedro is absolutely horrible. Pathetic. I've never seen him quite like this ... like a guy who didn't really have it in his heart to go out and compete against his old teammates.

The worst part about the mets taking it up the ass? Met fans loving it more than sox fans.
