Gotta love seeing the Nats grabbing their ankles (and liking it)....after they played against us like it was the World Series
Jesus Montero since June 1 (286 at-bats):
.325/.386/.605/.991
July 1 (182 at-bats):
.348/.417/.658/1.075

He eats innings and everything else except salad. That guy is getting huge
I've been trying to tell you guys he's not that good.
Never left the Betances bandwagon.
The staff needs an innings-eater desperately, but 3+ years of Robinson Abuse may finally be taking its toll on him.
I'm so sick of Five-and-fly Jaret and Nibbles Chacon, though, that I'm almost willing to try it if the Nats are just kidding about that Milledge thing and would give him up for salary relief only.
He ate something tonight, but it wasn't inningsOriginally Posted by Jace
Thing is - the price probably won't go down on him - there's too many teams needing starters
That could be a good thing - at least Cashman won't pay that kind of price

Yeah, I wasn't being serious. He'd probably eat the whole spread in the clubhouse and 6 innings with a 6.5 ERA if he came here. I hope he brings some fried plantains, those are amazingOriginally Posted by scooterfan
People often get this confused. Bad teams don't grab their ankles against good teams. It is the other way around.Originally Posted by dabomb2045
It's funny how the Nationals play like its the World Series against the Yankees but absolutely suck against the Red Sox.
Jason Johnson was DFAd.
Sometimes late in the season they do, but you make a good point. Ankle-grabber Chacon really fixed us good this weekend.Originally Posted by 24Rickey

The Nationals did not play like it was the WS against the Yankees. The Nats did not raise their level of play the Yankees lowered theirs.
Now that they are playing the Sox they don't all of the sudden suck again, the Sox are just playing them the way a first place team should.
Fastball 82-84 and a variety of other slop thrown up there tonight.
Noooooo thank you.

He was DFA'd for a reason. He was down right awful and is the reason that Randy has a 5 game suspension.Originally Posted by Iknowcool

Going into last night, Livan was 5-0 with a 2.45 earned run average in his last six starts against the AL, including seven innings of one-run ball to beat Baltimore back on May 21. Mysteriously, he seems to pitch well against the AL.
Last night, he didn't have it, but he pitched effectively through a knee injury last year, and he may still be recovering. The radio said that his physical condition is continually improving.
He's only 31, so it's not as if he's another Randy Johson-Mike Mussina aged pitcher.
And while his half-brother is perhaps the most effective postseason pitcher ever, Livan is a very effective October pitcher himself.
And he's an innings-eater, which is important for a team with an overworked bullpen.
Livan Hernandez's stats:

He's still recovering from the knee injury, and the Nats don't have any other options. That said, he will always be "recovering" b/c the boy has put on too many lbs. Won't get any better this season.
Patterson is coming back this week, and Astacio is rehabbing at New Orleans. The Nats expect to see him fairly soon. At that point, they have Patterson, Armas, Astacio, Ortiz, O'Connor, and Hill, even if they move Livo.Originally Posted by nydeano
Yep, and I always think that is an underrated source of angst for the Yankees.Originally Posted by dabomb2045
There is simply more pride and more news at stake to beat the Yankees than the Sox or anyone else.
I guarantee the Braves show up a lot more like the postseason team they were the last 14 years when they play us as opposed to the rollover they just did against the Sox.
The Marlins will be red hot and make these games look like the 2003 WS this weekend. By the time the Sox come to play them, they'll be the last place Marlins yet again...
The Phillies cannot even beat the Mets a single game in their own park, the team that thir season was on the line against. Never were even in any game.. But they play us like their lives and the lives of their wives, kids and pets depended on it..
The Nationals played us like they could not care about the reast of the season as long as they beat us. Then they wnent out and played the Sox exactly like that, like they did not care about the rest of the season after beating the Yankees.
