    Dontrelle to Yanks, almost done????

Now dont jump down my throat. I want to know if its true. My friend called me up and said that someone on the FAN said the deal was close. Supposedly, it would be for Cano, minor league pitcher, and OF. Is this true? Did anyone else hear this? I hate listening to the FAN so I wouldnt know. I think my friend is FOS.
I'm a real fan, not on the bandwagon. I suffered for years watching this rotation- Andy Hawkins, Tim Leary, Chuck Cary, Dave Lapoint, Mike Witt. Most of you never heard of these guys.

I don't see the Yanks doing that unless they know they can get Soriano to replace Cano, and the minor leaguer better not be hughes, and I still dont see them trading CAno for an NL pitcher that is prob average in the AL.

    Doin' it again in 2010..

If this were true, Cano would not be playing tonight - that is for certain.

I don't think this thread will last too long. Im sure if this had an ounce of truth to it, there would have been a thread on it already.

I love Cano, but I would take a young starting pitcher for a position player.

Would you take a young starting pitcher who's been struggling all year and who relies on deception that will probably cause an arm problem eventually?

I would have a hard time with the Yankees trading Cano for anyone. I think Cano is going to be a great player. He's already really good now, and will probably get better.

No, no, no - your friend has it all wrong.

    The Yankees get Willis.

The Marlins get Cano, Hughes, Duncan, Cabrera, Pavano (and we pay all but the ML minimum on his remaining contract), Proctor and a bundle of cash.

    Your friend is FOS.

You say pessimistic joking crap like this, yet your location talks about being "optimistic" that the Yanks will win it all... so what's it gonna be?

Re: Dontrelle to Yanks, almost done????

For what it is worth, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com says everyday it becomes less likely the Marlins will trade Willis. Apparently it is owner Jeffrey Loria's call and he is under pressure to get a real ballpark in Miami built. Would he want to hold on to the most charismatic player to help get the deal done? You also wonder if Cashman and the Yankees have been burned too often by NL pitchers having to adjust to the AL.

what he said isn't pessimistic, it's true...it'd probably take that for the yankees to get willis

It would take that for the Yankees to get him, when the Marlins have been dangling him all this time? I highly doubt it.

No, his intent seemed to imply that all of our trades are bad ones. While we have certainly had our fair share of poor trades, I wouldn't call them bad decisions at the time they were made. It just turned out the talent traded for didn't produce as they did in their prior stint.

the marlins haven't been dangling him at all, in fact they are constantly denying rumors that he is going to be traded, it's just speculation that he's going to be traded because of all the trades in the offseason.

it wouldn't take exactly that, but it would take that much value to get willis.

Publicly, of course they have been denying it. But I hardly think behind the scenes he has "trade-exempt" stamped on him. In fact, I'm sure they're wondering just how much they can get for him, but I still doubt it would take half the Yankee farm system to get him. The Marlins want to get rid of all payroll, and Willis will be due for a HUGE salary increase come contract signing time, and in my opinion they'd be willing to take a chance on a few prospects without the hype of someone like Hughes.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria is a soft-spoken man, but when the topic turned to the future of his marquee players, Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera, his voice boomed through the tunnels beneath Wrigley Field.

"They're not going anywhere. I've said that 15 times," Loria said Wednesday, his voice rising as he walked from the field to the clubhouse during the Marlins' series in Chicago.

"We're trying to build a team. We build around those two guys. It's the same thing as building an art collection."

    Someone close this thread.

nobody said he was trade-exempt, but there's quite a difference between trade-exempt and dangling him. NOBODY is trade-exempt if the right deal comes along.

and no, they wouldn't take a chance on a few prospects without the hype of someone like Hughes, because a team with a deeper farm than ours will be able to give them TWO prospects with the hype of someone like Hughes.

why the hell would the marlins be looking to help us? talks for willis start with hughes and end with wang and cano.

All good and fine. But if the right deal is there, I'm sure he wouldn't be immune to going for it... in fact, I'm sure he's tired of the questions. My sole point is I think the Yanks could work a deal without giving up even half of what the previous poster implied.

the marlins aren't looking to help us, they're looking out for their own backs

a "proven" starter who was contending for the cy young last year, is lefty, and is younger than 25 years old has a HELL of a lot more trade value than prospects from the yankee farm not named Hughes.

This is all good and fine. Your opinion makes sense, along with everyone else's. However, I do believe the Marlins are keeping one very keen eye out for deals that could unload Willis and his upcoming salary increase in favor of a few prospects.

That being said, I won't be surprised if he stays put either. I do believe though that the Marlins are seeking potential buyers in search of something they deem more valuable and less costly than Willis.

Theres never...ever...ever...ever been a source from the Marlins that said that the Marlins were looking to trade Willis or Cabrera. It's been other teams' newspapers throwing around rumors of different player offers. This is all bs

You will forgive me if I don't take a guy seriously when he comes on and starts a thread about how some friend said the Marlins were going to trade Willis for some pitcher, some outfielder, and our second baseman. And all of this from some guy on the Fan.
