If you could interview one sports writer?

Ok, so if you could interview one sports writer who would it be and why? I have to do this next quarter for my Reporting Class and I have no idea who I should do.

Dan Shaughnessy. Find out why he's such a tool.

Do you have to actually interview a reporter and write about why you chose that person, or just write about who you would interview if you could choose one person, and why you'd interview him/her?

Easy. Mike Lupica. It would a lot easier that way to just reach across and punch him in his smug, little, midget face.

I would interview Roger Kahn whom I believe to be one of the greatest sportwriters who ever lived.

I also would like to "interview" Mike Lupica. Right in the head with a baseball bat.

Maybe then I should just force him to write a positive article about the Yankees.

Although, that's probably more cruel, and painful for Lupica.

And how did he go from being such a slob to being precise enough to do autopsies? Felix really must've made a big impression on him!

You want to be a journalist from what I gather. When you are, finally, will you be coming here to gather questions for your newest guest?

Not sure where you are in the college process but it might be time to start thinking for yourself...

Woah, why do you have to be such an ass? I was just curious. And for your information, I do think for myself. I'm actually a good reporter here at Central Washington University. I just thought it was an interesting question to bring to a baseball fan forum that's all.

What I meant was he could've said the same thing, albeit in a much nicer way, in a PM.

Re: If you could interview one sports writer?

    Me.

No, just kidding. I've been very lucky in the number of sportswriters I have met over the past couple years, but of the people I haven't, probably Bill Simmons, Bob Klapisch, or Rick Reilly top the list. I'd like to know how Simmons and Reilly got so damn clever, and how Klap always seems to make so much sense regardless of whether or not you agree with him.

If I had a time machine, I'd go back a couple decades and interview Fred Lieb or Shirley Povich -- man, those guys must've had stories to tell....

    Good topic, Brooke!

In the future please report a post that you find offensive and against CS. The comment made to you was out of line. Calling her an ass is also against CS so let a mod step in to ensure that a situation doesn't escalate from here on out. Thank you.

Re: If you could interview one sports writer?

Wow, Brooke, that's a fascinating question...

I really don't know, I intern at SNY, so maybe one of the reporters there, Gary Apple, Steve Berthiaume, someone who I kinda have an "in" with. Or maybe Eric Adelson, I believe his name is, I met him at a media conference, really nice guy.

But if I had to find a guy, like, seriously interview them, the most fascinating guy to do would be Lupica. As far as I know, he's not an athlete, and yet, he's gotten himself an incredibly lucrative career for himself. So just to find out how the hell he got what he got.

So that's what I'd do, in a perfect world.

I just heard back from Pete Abraham! I just sent him an e-mail today asking him to interview him... and right away, I get a response. Can I just say I'm on cloud 9 right now? I'm still hearing back from other sports journalists... I'm so happy but so nervous at the same time.

    My choices would be --

Thomas Boswell (mentioned above) He's a true baseball scholar.
Tony K. or Mike Wilbon. I love those guys.

...or if we can pick non-living people, Dick Schapp. The man had an incredible life in the sports world.

Also, an honorable mention goes to Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press. He's a great sports writer, and a fantastic author too.

I already had the opportunity to speak somewhat in depth with Mickey Spagnola toward the end of the Cowboys' training camp this summer. He would have been my answer. I guess now, I'd like to interview Tony Kornheiser.

Really? Wow. What did you guys talk about. That's really interesting. I just got an e-mail back from John Hickey who told me that he totally wants to talk to me. He's a sports journalist from the Seattle area.
