Nothing new here - ESPN is Red Sox Nation 2 .
" My whole thing is, you're only playing for three hours a day. The least you can do is play hard. " Derek Jeter
I wonder if they'll re-run Cold Pizza's Tuesday morning segment on "does Curt Schilling's win mean the Red Sox are about to put the Yankees away early?"
No bias, though ...![]()
SOP for ESPN highlight shows:
Show Ortiz homers, gloss over 0-5 4K nights.
Show A-Rod errors and DPs, casually mention game-winning hits.
When the Yankee game is on both NESN and ESPN it's no comparison. I automatically watch NESN because Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy call a fair game without "all the homer yelling" of that big fat blimp Jon Miller. In fact, I'll only watch ESPN with the sound off if it's not on any other station. But I happen to like the way NESN does their games.
Congrats are in order to the 2009 WS Champion Yankees. Let's keep it going!
Just saw Baseball Tonight, Jeter's play didn't even make web gems, but of course Lowell's play against Sheffield did.
I've watched NESN instead of ESPN the last two nights.
RIP Cory Lidle. Forever a Yankee.
I still believe.
If Ortiz had gone deep with the bases juiced, I doubt that Royals/Tigers highlights would lead off SportsCenter.
I'm going to chalk that one up to the fact that they needed some additional production on it. Probably wanted a few angles.Originally Posted by yankee maniac

I only get NESN too because of blackouts, but I'd pick them over ESPN anyway.
I do get a kick out of the way they sound like someone shot their favorite pet when they lose though. There was more behind the Dunkin Donuts musical montage than the play Jeter made to end the game.![]()

Funny this thread should be started.
I was saying earlier tonight to my roomie that, if the Yankees won tonight (this was obviously mid-game), ESPN would cream itself over Manny's homers and not the fact that Melky (the 21 year old who was like a deer in headlights last year) had his breakout game.
Great game by Melky....now if that power just starts to show up....

ESPN is ridiculous. Tonight proves that Ortiz may not be as 'clutch' as people claim him to be. Funny - yesterday, Chris Russo was on saying that at 2.5 games back the Yanks were done, not even going to make the playoffs. Now, they're right there again. It's funny how the media can basically turn on one game. If we lose tomorrow, we'll be hearing how this team can't win and Arod is awful.
I guarantee the Yankees will not lose tomorrow.Originally Posted by surge511

You do wonder how veteran media people can just panic over one game. Not just Russo (who is a bad joke) but in Saturday's Yankee win Tim McCarver talked about how this will impact Billy Wagner for the next two weeks. Wagner has gotten saves in his two appearances since. I can see questioning if a youngster can bounce back but veteran players such as Wagner, Rodriguez and Ortiz realize it is a long season and tomorrow is another day.Originally Posted by surge511
NESN is not bad. The best thing is that because they see the Yankees so much, they do feel the need to repeat the same 5 themes like ESPN always does. I mean, I'm well aware that Jeter is not an overrated player and I do not need Joe Morgan to tell me this every game.
Wow! Didn't know it was that bad.Originally Posted by hellonewman

Top 5 Web Gems were just re-done. Jeter's play was number one.
Yet folks will ignore that because it disproves their Oliver Stone ESPN bias conspiracy theories.Originally Posted by 27IsNext

Having dealt with Bristol types personally (and knowing how they think), it probably killed them to even add the Jeter play, never mind make it number one!
BTW the funniest thing I ever got from them was a Harold Reynolds bobble head doll. Kiki ripped the head off it two weeks ago...!
Waiting for Sterling to retire so I can start listening to games on the radio again...
Anyone got a video of the Jeter play? I missed the 9th inning
I actually think NESN does a fair game, if a little dry at times. Orsillo and Remy are one of my preferred broadcast teams.Originally Posted by The PRO
ESPN's team tonight wasn't that bad, though. I still stuck primarily with Remdawg & Sidekick, but when I went to ESPN it was listenable.

The Sportscenter Top Ten had Jeter's play at #8, while Youkilis diving stop was #4, and the #1 was Boris Diaw hitting a 6 foot jumper for the Suns to win in Dallas.
Absolutely ridiculous. Maybe the game winning shot should be #1, but there were plenty of other plays (a diving catch by Kaz Matsui), a diving stop by a 3B that weren't nearly as good as Jeter's play.
Jeters play was amazing. Maybe the play is starting to be taken for granted, simply because Jeter will execute it flawlessly nearly everytime he gets the chance. I simply think that everyone, even non-Yanks fan have become so spoiled by the clutchness of DJ that they do not appreciate his physical ability. It was an amazing play. Especially considering the team the Yanks were playing and the fact that it was the game ending play. Jeter is the clutchest player in sports and in many ways is taken for granted. But Yanks fans still appreciate all he does.Originally Posted by RIYankee23

He was saying it pretty jokingly... Russo is an admitted Yankee hater and always picks against the Yanks. He alwyas picks against us but he's doing it with his heart, not his head.Originally Posted by surge511

I think Russo does this to get a rise out of the Yankee fans who let him get under their skin. Mike was asking him what theme he was going to use this year. Last year was the 1959/1965 theme, this year he said he would use 1979. I love it when he is wrong.Originally Posted by JeffWeaverFan

Having said that, ESPN as a whole is biased against the Yankees, but I am relatively happy with the BT crew. I think Ravech and Reynolds and even Kruk give everyone a fair shake most of the time. When they bemoan a Yankee player, I am usually bemoaning the guy as well. It is not like they have a witch hunt for problems with the Yankees. It is more the national media, and even some of the local media like the Times or Lupica who have witch hunts.
The ESPN back page stories on Mike and Mike in the morning are really bad.
"The Yankees won last night, BUT... This guy sucks and that guy sucks and they are done". Yesterday, after Arod had the big 3 run blast that decided the game, they were still all over him and his postgame comments. The guy just won a game against Boston. And oph by the way, Arod is 2nd in the league in go ahead RBI's and leads the league in GWRBI. I am not saying therse are the end all be all of clutch definition, bu it goes to show you that no matter what, if you hunt for something long enough, you'll find it even if it does not exist. I am sure I could make up some stat to show Pujols to be a bad hitter if I sat down long enough and thought about it. That is what they do with Arod and the Yankees.

ESPN was because it was a national game, and about 99% of the time you always get the home team's feed. This weekend all the games will be on YES. Except Friday night's game won't be because whenever it's on the local NY channel (My 9 I think it is) you don't get those games. But you'll probably get the Royals feed for Friday, and then YES for the other weekend games.Originally Posted by T-Rod
Edit: Actually you won't get Saturday's game at all if you're not in the NY area. Fox blacks out all out of market teams until 7 PM I believe it is because they want you to watch their broadcast instead. It sucks. Big time.
