Maybe he actually gets a chance this time. If he happens to be lights out, maybe when Small is moved back to the bullpen, Erickson is DFA'd instead of Bean going back to the minors. This COULD potentially be his big breakthrough.
bean isn't that good, and he won't be able to thrive in the majors with an 85 pmh fastball. his slurve is decent, but everything else in his repertoire is garbage.
I heard at the stadium he was sent right back down

I believe that Mitch Jones was sent right back down for Bean. Otherwise, you're reporting something that is news to me.Originally Posted by kjamidon
Exactly. Hopefully Torre will only use him in mop-up spots, if at all.Originally Posted by flymick24

He won't last long up there anyway, once Crosby comes back he should be sent back down.
Torre won't put up with Bean's walks. He took him out in the middle of the count. Not a good sign.
The count was 1-0. But he did seem to have control issues. Still, he looked like a guy who would be tough to hit, as that delivery is a bit strange, to say the least.Originally Posted by NHYank

Actually, it's 85, and he hit 87 on the gun at least once, last night.Originally Posted by JamieMadrox
But he does need better control. He has the greatest stats in the world in the minors, but without a "signature" pitch, he will not last long in the majors, no matter how funky a delivery he has. Pinpoint control will help him though. But can he pitch like that?
Time may tell.
I thought Bean did pretty well considerring the stage and the weather. No one had good control last night...Not even Tom Glavine

While I strongly doubt he lasts on the Yankees, I think Bean might have a future as a low-tier reliever on a small-market team.
i doubt he'll make it anywhere with his 78 mph fastball.Originally Posted by surge511

Well, I guess he came down to earth last night.
So long, been nice seeing you.
Actually, I expect Reese to go down if Sheff is activated tonight or tomorrow. But, since the Yankees are off Thursday, maybe they skip Small's turn in the rotation, and use him in relief the next few games, with his next start then on May 30th. SO Bean goes down, and there is an extra bat on the bench.
He's nothing more than a righty specialist, ala Chad Bradford. Lefties can get too good a look at him and will batter him, just like righties against Mike Myers.
WHy don't we bring up Smith. Let him get the mop up duties and get some experience too. That would allow the Yankees to evaluate if he is ready to step into the pen next year and if they should resign Villione.

Phil Hughes
Joba Chamberlain
Ian Kennedy
That's just too good of an idea. Will never happen.Originally Posted by ppa79

Once Sheffield and Dotel come back, there will be very little room left on the roster. Erickson and Bean will most likely be gone. Reese will be sent down once Crosby comes off the DL. Another perosn will have to go because Chacon is on the DL, too. Terrence Long, maybe? Basically, there is not enough room for Smith right now, and all a call-up would do right now is use up one of his options.
smith belongs in the majors now, and if it were up to me, i'd DFA small to make room for him.Originally Posted by surge511

He's 26, right? It's about time he's in the majors. What are his stats in AAA?Originally Posted by flymick24
Smith has arrived. Reese was sent down. WIth the resurgence of Bernie, especially from the left side, and Melky playing well, Long will be the backup OF until Crosby returns. Then we shall see if Crosby or Long is teh main backup, along with Bernie.Originally Posted by flymick24
Small is going to stick around, unless he flounders big time. Pavano is not coming back, and I take Small over Erickson.
i talked with Colter last night and as aspected he is bummed and not really with it. sad to see a big man bummed..kj

I would say that Long and Erickson are the next 2 guys to be DFA'd.Originally Posted by mbn007
