    Drinking and broadcasting dont mix.

Rick Sutcliffe stops in the San Diego announcers booth for an inning...after what seems like 15 beers.

I heard a minute of this on the radio today. Sutcliffe was babbling on about Bill Murray. What the hell was he talking about?

I wonder what 15 beers would do to Sterling.

Sutcliffe issued this statement: "I appreciate the opportunity to address the situation that occurred last night in San Diego. While spending a week off in California, I planned a day of golf and attendance at a ball game as a fan with friends. I want to assure everyone that I was not drinking and driving. Towards the end of a long day on the golf course and evening at the game, I made a brief visit to my former co-workers in the Padres television broadcast booth.

"I was offered the opportunity to make a guest appearance on the air. At that time, I exercised bad judgment and accepted, even though I was not in optimum condition to go on live television. I regret that lapse in judgment and my decision and I sincerely apologize," he said.
    Thank God he wasn't driving

Did he spend the day with Joe Namath?
Burns: I wonder if this Homer Nixon is any relation?
Smithers: Unlikely, sir. They spell and pronounce their names differently.

Damn. He broke out the "You're the best, man!"

I gotta admit it, though, if I was a retired baseball star, I'd drunk crash booths all the time.

I live in San Diego, and I got home late from work to tune into the end of the Padres game. I was in the other room and heard the TV on and knew immediately he was wasted. I backed up the feed w/ my DVR to listen again! It was classic. The next day, he issued a statement saying how he was playing golf all day and that he was NOT drinking and driving. Hilarious. Hopefully ESPN w/ can his ass, he is annoying to the 10th power.

I heard that last night, and it was terrible. He totally embarrassed himself, and what sucks is that he was invited up to the booth. No one could tell he was completely plastered?

He doesn't sound/look as bad on the TV feed as he does on the audio only feed that they hacked up

What's with the non-stop back patting going on in that booth

I remember when he would come back to TV after doing those three innings on WGN radio. He was so deep in the bag, I couldn't understand half the things he was saying.

When I watched the video of it, I got the feeling the guys knew he was hammered and chose to air it anyway because they thought it would be funny.

I wasn't saying that's what happened...but they way I heard the story, he just dropped by and they asked him if he wanted to go on air, when he obliged. Whoever asked him to go on air must have known that he was inebriated.

Oh man...that's some funny stuff! The Clooney part was funny. I also loved how they were trying to tell him about how he was the answer to a trivia question and he's not paying any attention and just rambling on about nonsense! At least he didn't embarrass himself Namath style.
