VENUE: Ameriquest Field in Arlington
With four championships on his resume, Joe Torre has already guaranteed his spot in New York Yankees history. One more win allows to join an exclusive few.
Torre looks to become the fourth Yankees manager with 1,000 wins when New York faces the Texas Rangers in the finale of a three-game series at Ameriquest Field.
Torre is in his 11th season with New York, the longest uninterrupted tenure by one Yankees manager since Casey Stengel lasted between 1949 and 1960.
The 65-year-old Torre also has won 74 games in 10 consecutive postseason appearances with New York, taking the team to six World Series appearances.
With a win, Torre would join Joe McCarthy (1,460), Stengel (1,149) and Miller Huggins (1,067) as the only Yankees managers with 1,000 wins.
Torre, who also managed the Mets, Atlanta and St. Louis, has 1,893 career wins and needs nine more to pass Gene Mauch to move into 11th place on the all-time list.
New York (17-11) won its fourth straight game Saturday 6-1 over Texas (17-14), matching its longest winning streak from April 9-13.
Former Ranger Alex Rodriguez's three-run homer highlighted a five-run sixth inning. It was his first since April 19, and has the 435th of his career, three short of Andre Dawson for 33rd place on the all-time list.
Jason Giambi also homered and leads New York with 10 homers.
Chien-Ming Wang (1-1, 4.89 ERA) is looking for his first win since April 16 when he starts for the Yankees. The right-hander has not received a decision in his last two outings, including a 7-3 loss to Boston on Monday.
Wang allowed three runs and six hits with a season-high four walks over six innings.
"Wang was good, considering how he was struggling with his command," Torre said. "This kid showed me a lot tonight. He bent a lot, but he didn't break. He kept us right there."
The Rangers are looking to avoid losing to the Yankees for the eighth straight time dating back to last season when Robinson Tejeda (1-0, 3.60) makes his second career start for Texas.
Tejeda had decent debut with the Rangers in a 7-5 win on Tuesday against Tampa Bay. He gave up two runs and three hits through five innings, but had difficulty finding the strike zone.
He walked six batters in the first five innings - including three leading off a frame.
"I think he'll get better," Showalter said. "He knows he has to be better. Hopefully, he'll get this one behind him and get his feet on the ground."
Tejeda was 0-2 with a 5.33 ERA in five starts at Triple-A Oklahoma after being picked up April 1 in a trade with Philadelphia. He was 4-3 with a 3.57 ERA with the Phillies last season.
Wang has never faced the Rangers while Tejada is making his first career start against the Yankees.

Why not switch LF and RF???
I dont understand why MLB.TV took such a step back. I mean, it was really good last year, and has completely gone into the crapper this year.
1 gone, here's Jeter.

Wang better be good. You have a feeling he's not going to have much support with this lineup.

the Rangers have come to the Wang place
