I did not see this posted and im a little bored. I was wondering what everyone does to keep themselves in shape. I personally do not work out. Well I work with kids for a living, infants and toddlers so that is the only time I am pretty active.

I'm a member at the 14th St. Y. It's not the best gym, but they have planty of machines for weight lifting and cardio workouts. And a pool. I'm there 3-5 times a week.
I want to visit the gym (cardio) three times a week, and really have to, but lately haven't. I always have the plan to go tomorrow.
I always want to be there before 6PM because they have classes from 7PM on, and I don't want to stretch with some guy in cycling pants in front of me.
Lately after I have been promoted I work till 7PM / 7.30PM and at that time I need some dinner.
I have been cycling in the forest today though (wearing regular shorts of course).

I walk (with a little running thrown in - trying to build up to more running).
I walk for 30 minutes at lunch and 45 minutes to an hour at night. Last week I did 25 miles.

The day I workout is the day I die. And considering I'm an atheist who does not believe in an afterlife, once I'm dead, I'll no longer have the opportunity to work out. Therefore, you will never catch me at a gym, dead or alive.
I think the last time I worked out in a gym-like setting was in freshman year (that would be almost 3 years ago, probably), when my gym teacher dragged our class into the weight room. I think I lifted weights for 2 seconds and then spent the rest of the time complaining with other people who hate working out, and of course, did not work out for the remaining 45 minutes. Eh, it worked out well in the end. Didn't even break a sweat.![]()

Same as everyone else, pretty much... but I also throw in protein shakes daily to make sure I get what I need.
I lift 16oz of brew several times a week.
....
I used to do no exercise at all, but now I'm on the get-right plan. I do a little weight lifting every night, and I run every night. I'm concentrating more on the running, and I'm up to a mile and a half without stopping; it took me 21 minutes to do it, but considering that I started out a month ago after doing absolutely nothing, I'm happy with it.
As far as the diet, I completely cut out chocolate/candy, fried food, fast food, and soda. Water, orange juice, and milk are now the only things I drink, with water being by far the most. Most of my meals are grilled chicken with either rice or vegetables, or a salad.
I've been doing this plan for about a month, and although I haven't seen any progress in either the scale or the mirror, I feel great. My plan might not seem great to the health conscious out there, considering I'm just a month removed from sitting in my room in front of the TV all day eating chocolate frosting right out of the can, I think I've made a lot of progress.

I hit the gym 3-4 times a week to run and lift, making sure I get plenty of rest in-between. Plus I've been getting into raquetball about 3 times a week, which is great exercise
about a year and a half ago I weighed almost 240 lbs...I cut out the junk food and snacked on veggies or yogurt instead and just started walking at the gym and built up to some running. Now I'm at 185 and feelin great![]()

You guys might also want to try some grilled tuna or salmon a couple of times a week... very high in protein, and it mixes it up well - I got tired of grilled chick so this was nice.
Some ground flaxseed in your cereal is great too.
I hit the gym 4-5 times a week and play softball 2x week.
I eat healthier now then I did a few years ago, however if I want fries, I'll eat them. Same thing applies to dessert. I have a sweet tooth and I try not to pig out too often, but I won't deprive myself.
I'm very picky when it comes to food, so diets don't work with me. I'd rather eat what I want and just hit the gym to compensate.
I take a 30 minute walk on my lunch break during the week. After work I usually do some combo of pushups, crunches, lunges, squats, and weight lifting, alternating between exercises on different days. Sometimes I'll walk with weights so I can do my cardio and arm workout at the same time. On weekends I work out more intensely, usually I go for a jog and do a couple of the above exercises.
Push ups and crunches before bed, running, playing basketball or catch or softball. I'd lift weights in my garage but there's tools and crap all over my bench.
Occasionally, I rise up from the couch because I need to adjust a developing wedgie in my drawers. If I want to get really crazy, I walk to the fridge. Whew, I'm worn out just thinking about all that physical activity.

Typical week:
lift 3x
rowing machine 3-5x
running 4x
bike 2x
softball 1x
kayaking 1x
surfing 1x (winter excepted)
Gym at least 3 times a week when the schedule permits. 30 minutes on the bike with the heart rate in the aerobic zone, and 30 minutes of weights, lots of reps and light weights.
Let the kids play.
I do 45 minutes cardio 3 days a week... alternated with....
25 minute workout on stability ball (core workout) with weights and on the same day....30 minutes cardio... 3 days a week.
Sunday is my day off!
Whew!

Be kind. Every person you meet is fighting a hard battle.
I usually work out two times a day but Im a freak haha.
I do conditioning exercises in the morning (one hour) and then I lift weights in the evening at the gym (for about one hour), I usually do that seven times a week but sometimes I take a day off.
But 3-4 times a week is cerainly enough, Im just a bit weird.
As far as eating (or in this case drinking) I really recommend some sort of protein shake after lifting heavy weights,

There's a home gym in my basement along with a treadmill and eliptical machine which I havn't used much since starting my kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects. Health clubs get old fast (waiting on machines and dealing with traffic). At least now I can work out whenever I want without the hassles of going to a gym.

Lift weights 5-6 times a week. Do 30 min cardio twice a week. Recently altered my program to this so I could work at adding muscle mass...
Anyone who has any tips in this area, I'd be happy to hear!

For example I workout like this.
Monday: Biceps+Triceps
Tuesday: Breast+shoulders
Wedensday: Back+legs
Thursday:Biceps+Triceps
Friday: Breast+shoulders
Saturday: Back+legs
and so on.
It has worked perfectly for me, I started working out almost three years ago and I weighted around 165 when I started and now Im at around 225.
Mosty muscles.

My current routine is:
Monday: Legs
Tuesday: Chest, Cardio
Wednesday: Back, abs
Thursday: Shoulders
Friday: Arms, Cardio
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Rest and/or Cardio if none on Fri
I'm definitely consuming protein shakes after every workout, also consuming close to 1.5 times my bodyweight (145 lbs, and I'm around 5' 11") in grams of protein.
For the past 8 weeks I had been working to lose excess bodyfat and get more 'cut'. It worked well and I had great results, but I was concerned I was on the path to getting too lean and may begin to cross the borderline of losing muscle mass since I was eating around 1500-1600 calories a day and doing cardio 8 times a week. I changed the routine just last week (change being less cardio and more eating) so I'll have to gauge my progress from that time.
Thanks for the tips so far!

Walk at least a half hour every day
Ride the exercise bike for 15-20 minutes a day
Crunches before bedtime
No eating past 8:00 PM
You're all so motivated, I wish I had the same desire to be so active. I have a variety of different exercise equipment in my house and use them for awhile then tire of them. I joined the gym for awhile, but that was short-lived too.
I walked for awhile every morning, but then that dwindled.
It's not like I sit on my butt all day, but I can't seem to follow a routine of exercise.

Honestly, the only reason I'm able to workout regularly is because I have a gym right in my building at work. I go straight downstairs to the gym after work before I have a chance to rationalize why I don't need to go. Once I get home from work, I'm done.Originally Posted by krystl

My cousin (who used to work out a lot) keeps telling me that despite 4 days of raquetball, I need to lift weights in between. Something about making me lose weight faster or building muscle mass or some .................
I play for 2 hours each time. I get so tired that I can't get myself to work out on the "off-days". Is there is any merit to that?
Ditto. I'll buy exercise DVDs, thinking, "Hey, I can do these at home!" Yeah. I use them a few times, then...Originally Posted by krystl

That's awesome. I wish I had a gym in my building. Then I wouldn't have to work out at 5:30am.Originally Posted by NelsonMuntz

Yes, you will definitely see better results if you add some weight training into your workout routine. BBtB and I were discussing this issue in the McDonald's thread: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?t=94931&page=3Originally Posted by gdn

My cholesterol is actually excellent, despite eating all those eggs. I don't eat any meat and work out a lot, so that has helped.
Quick tangent, were you the one that posted the cell phone link, where you order them from a site? If so, I need that link!Originally Posted by gdn

Just came back from the gym - anyone got any tips for motivation? I'm plateauing and have been having horrible gym sessions...I just feel so f*cking weak. I just took 4 days off from the gym to recoup and today, more of the same. Actually, I think most of it is b/c my lifting partner is a p*ssy and never shows up...sometimes I need someone to kick my ass and keep me going on those last sets.
It might sound weird but with the amount of homework I've had lately I've seriously started using the 7th inning stretch as a cue to get up and run around my room. I have not had time to hit the gym so this gets me moving and gives me a break from the computer.
Today I've taken the stairs to both my 4th floor classes and my legs are killing me from this past weekend (Last weekend before finals is a big party and I danced alot) so I'm good with no game today
