Remember he sat in that block of ice in Times Square for 2 weeks? They showed on a TV how it worked, and it wasn't even cold inside the piece of ice. Anyone could've done it

I saw him yesterday. There was a huge line if you wanted to walk up to the bubble. I just watched from farther back. After a minute or two, you've seen enough.
Where does he piss?

I'm hearing that the 9 minute escape thing is in jeapordy (spl?). He supposedly hasn't eaten, so his trying to outdo the 8 min, 58 sec record for holding one's breath, especially with 150 lbs of chains after having not eaten, may be too much.
I'd have to step up to that thing by him to see what's going on. I'd have to see it for myself.

He pisses in the water. It would be pretty funny if I saw him piss in the tank.

You guys need to read the article! Everyone keeps wondering about his pissing!
"My system is completely empty," he said before being submerged. "So that way in the sphere I don't have to use the bathroom. I have a catheter in case I have to do No. 1, but I don't intend on doing anything else."

i think he's great when he does that street magic but i always wondered what the hell these stunts have to do with magic.. there's no trickery or anything involved.. it's like pole sitting or something.Originally Posted by Hitman23

..which brings me back to my original question. Is it a stunt or a trick? Is it a legitimate attempt to break a world record, or is it a very elaborate trick, set up to look like a record breaking stunt?Originally Posted by KLJ

i've read that the Guiness Book people won't be there, so it won't qualify as a world record (they'd have to inspect the water 2 hours in advance or something like that, and when he starts holding his breath, he wouldve been under there for a few days)Originally Posted by JfromJersey

IMO, it's all to make everyone think it's even more dangerous than initially expected. I don't think the man is going to endanger his life for the sake of a few Ooohs and Ahhhs. The guy knows what he's doing.
If I happen to remember it's on tonght, I'll watch, but if not, it's not that important to me.

If some guy wants to kill himself on national television, thats his perogative but i think its thoughtful of him to do it on an off day so that forumers who want to watch don't have to turn away from the game.
No Rally Monkeys, Towels or hankies
Just 50,000 fans of the New York Yankees.
So he has to hold his breath for 9 mins right? Then why is the show on for
2 hrs!!??
For the same reason that the Super Bowl is on for 12 hours every year... Pre-show, build-up, suspense... Plus I am sure they are going to recap his last week in the sphere as well as show him performing some of his street magic...Originally Posted by MCB12

He failed, lasted 7 minutes and change, said the world record was 8:58, which after looking at him after 7 minutes, I don't see how it's possible, entertaining? ehh, picture in picture has it's advantages.
Boy, when they went to get him, that was kinda scary, he's kicking, trying to get out of the tank, meanwhile his foot is still attached to a chain, that was pretty good TV.
The guy has some serious cajones, give him that.

For those of us who are/were a bit skeptical, here is an article that offers a possible explanation:

Blaine is an illusionist. He's not a record breaking athlete. He wants to be the modern day Houdini.

Thats pretty crazy holding your breath for 7 minutes. I'm lucky I can hold it for 7 seconds

It don't matter who's better than who, anyone who got the guts to even try that kinda stuff you gotta it up for him. I know I ain't tryin it
If you search "David Blaine" on Google, you'll come across some websites that explain how most of his tricks are done. For example, the 1-50 guess a number trick really isn't that impressive once you know all the rules. But the bottom line is that it doesn't matter if you know the secrets of his tricks - he is a master illusionist and it is amazing to watch him in action, how he fools so many people so easily. It must take forever to perfect those card tricks.

... and he was still flying around inside. Then they took the top off and he flew out again... and out over the crowd
. Keep in mind, this was an outdoor event, and he flew from a covered area(the stage) to the back of the crowd in open air.
