Message Boards for Other Teams: A List

Since there have been a couple queries about message boards for other teams in the past couple days, I thought it might be useful to have some sort of list of good fan sites around the MLB.

My goal is to have only two or three sites per team--it's not meant to include every forum out there. I also prefer to post forum sites over blogs, although if a blog has a game thread or is really, really good, I'll include it. Thanks for all the suggestions!

http://www.sbnation.com/ includes blogs from every team except for the dodgers. there's a wide variety in terms of quality from team to team, but some, like the a's (http://www.athleticsnation.com), cardinals (http://www.vivaelbirdos.com) and cubs (http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com), are pretty active.

Haven't you ever heard of that well known grammar rule, "I before w except after Tribe?"

    Fixed it, thanks!

Also, operating under some silly theory that we might like more than one National, natfanatics.com changes their URL to natsfanatics.com.

Athletics Nation is pretty good. They've had some top-notch interviews, from Michael Lewis to Billy Beane, to top A's prospects.

No problem. And its sad that Barry goes there being all nice and what not and that one guy just baits him and acts like an ass. I'm glad some of the other sox fans told him to stfu.

Yeah...I was pretty shocked when I read that thread. I think NYYFANS runs a pretty tight ship, and the result is a darn good website for Yankee fans. I guess they resent our forum as much as our 26 Championships.

And the most important measure for how to judge the quality of a baseball site is how they treat or refer to the Yankees?

RSN is far and away a better website than SoSH as far as community goes. One, you don't to apply (what type of person applies to a message board by stating a case for why he is worthy of posting? Lame), Yankee fans are welcome (ignore SSA, he for some reason has it out for BBtB), and the mods won't let them bait you into getting banned. We have a closed forum over there for people who donate money to the board, and the mods laid down the law telling people to lay off BBtB. I was the loser who defended him

    Back on topic

That's a White Sox board I've read once in a while over the past two years.

Any of you guys who want to register would be welcome over at RSN. We have a few really good Yankee posters; JamieNYY, StuckInChiTown, CTYankee (Go Rocket on this board) and others.

You know, I used to have a real problem with this place banning Sox fans for what I felt was no reason. Then BBtB explained it how you did. When you have Sox fans saying, "I'm gonna go register so I can troll until I'm banned," it screws it up for other Sox fans by tightening the leash. I feel a lot differently now than I did on the first page of that thread on RSN.

For general baseball, I'd recommend www.baseball-fever.com. Very well-moderated board, strictly for baseball talk, though. It's how I came to find out about nyyfans, as I recall.

I lurked there a couple of times, but didn't really like it too much. Way too much anti-Yankee sentiment there, and the Yankee mods are really passive.

I like and greatly respect SoSH. I have learned a ton there, particularly how to apply statistics to real life questions. One poster (VaSoxFan, or some such), started a terrific thread where he applied stats to the question of whether Mike Lowell would bounce back or not. Fascinating stuff that I could never, ever do on my own b/c I'm a numbers idiot.
All that being said, however, I linked to RedSoxNation b/c it's an open community and it's welcoming of other teams' fans who respect the site. I think that lack of insularity is a good thing for a site. My feeling is that the closed nature of SoSH leads members to eat their own young at times; it gets brutal.

And all that being said AGAIN, I did not mean to open a can of worms by inadvertently leading folks to that NYYfans. thread at RSN. Yikes. My hair just burst into flame at the mental image of possible repercussions. Please don't make me go bald, folks.

I actually found that thread to be really interesting. It does give us an idea of what some people really think about us.

Okay. I just would have felt really guilty and bad if flaming had broken out. I think it's an interesting thread, too.

Some of them, probably. Others are just BSing and trying to look cool in front of their peers.

BTW, I'm still trying to get used to seeing BBtB sporting a pair of Red Socks. What the hell is this world coming to?

Better Mets boards than what you have listed:

http://www.nysportsday.com/themofo/ - The MOFO, lightly moderated no holds barred site with lots of good talk and a diversity of users

http://cybermessageboard.ehost.com/getalife/index.php - The Cranepool Forum, an older sabermatrics type crowd

Now you know how Sox fans feel when we see all those NY logos lined up under our names.
    It's certainly disorienting.
