So, I was robbed at gunpoint last night....

So I'm back in NY for the weekend....and last night, myself and 3 of my buddies got together and went bar/club hopping. We ended up settling at this strip of bars about 3 blocks from one of my friends apartments, so we left all our cars there...intending on walking back and just crashing at his place for the night. This is something we have done probably at leats 50 times without incident.

So we stayed at this one bar till last call, which was around 2 or so....then started walking back. We noticed these few guys following us as we got away from the bar and into the neighborhood, but we didnt think much of it. Combination of being drunk, and knowing that we have done this walk so many times without any issues. Before we know it....2 other guys cut us off in front, and were joined by the 2 guys behind us, and they ganged up on us and shoved their guns right into our heads asking us for our money and jewelry, or they would "blow our f*ckin heads off". I gave them my watch, and this one guy ripped my gold necklace off...and gave them the money I had which was like 50 bucks or so. My one buddy lost like 150 bucks. After that....the one guy pistol whipped one of us, and then put the gun right into his head...and I honestly thought he was going to shoot him right then and there. I also assumed we were next, since we still had guns buried into our heads as well.

Luckily, they stopped right there....and ran off. So we ran the rest of the way back to the apt, and we basically had the carry my friend who got pistol whipped since he was barely conscious and bleeding from his head.....called the cops, called 911 etc. So my friend is still in the hospital, but he should be out tonight....got a concussion and just some bad bruising and cuts on his head. Had to go to police station, cops wrote out a report, we had to give descriptions etc. As of now....no progress in our case. Who knows if they will find these guys, of course I'm praying they do find these bastards.

I'm still shaking about this, I couldnt even really sleep last night. I'm just glad to still be alive today.

Yeah, it def sounds like these creeps were waiting outside the bar...and looking for the right targets, and I guess we were them.

Poughkeepsie has its share of crime issues, there are def certain areas of the city where you know better then to walk around in after dark. But this particular neighborhood isnt bad...I havent heard anything like this happening before there.

Yeah, I think we did....well I hope we did. I think we gave an accurate description as we could have....considering it was real dark out, and we were scared sh*tless. Just have to keep our fingers crossed that they find them.

I'm assuming you know where the train station is?? Well, there is a bunch of bars right along the street across and up from the station, as well as a few that opened up in the station parking lot....so we were kinda hopping between all of them. So we had to leave the bar, walk past the station....past Noah's (another bar close to the station)...and over a few blocks. Its not a bad area, and like I said we had done that walk SOOOOO many times.

I am really happy you and your friends are alright-you definitely did the right thing by giving them what they wanted. As another poster said-you can replace money, but you can't replace people. It's unfortunate that there are people out there like that, it really is.

Sorry to hear about this, man. The area around Noah's Ark isn't too bad, but when you get a few blocks over, near Route 9G and the old railroad overpass, it gets kind of marginal, I know there's been some gang activity there over the years ... in fact there was a gang-related killing at the Jelly Belly Deli about 5-6 years ago, I think.

Parts of it are EXTREMELY nasty and dangerous, though the district dabomb described, near the waterfront, is not great but not terrible. They're trying to revitalize some of the more blighted areas, but it's a slow process, of course. There are some sections of town I wouldn't go into at night without a tank.

i live in poughkeepsie and go to marist, so im familiar with a lot of the places youre talking about

im surprised that it happened near the riverfront of all places...thats one of the better areas of poughkeepsie...me and my friends walk around a lot doing the same kind of bar hopping youre talking about...never reallly worry that much about our safety so thats definately an eye opener...its certainly not as bad as like the main street area

I had heard about the incident at the jelly belly...kinda random its like two blocks from where i live and we go there all the time...there was a stabbing on my street (garden st., if you know where that is) about four months ago

even more random is that some of my friends were at noahs on friday night for happy hour...crazy
