How much are you paying for gas?

Thanks to the ethanol "shortage" (refineries have plenty of crude oil but aren't refining it into gasoline for..... some reason) gas prices have gone crazy here.

$3.25/gal for regular unleaded is the common price here. It's over $4 in some places of Southern California.

Better hope your car doesn't require premium.

I'm paying around $3 a gallon now, but I'm not worried, Bush said he was going to work hard to control the price of gas.

I wish they would keep that friggin' Ethanol out of my gas. All it does is lower my MPG. BTW here in the Hudson Valley as of Wednesday it was $2.96.

I didn't even notice how high it was getting. Last time I remember getting gas is was like $2.67 and then all of a sudden I look a couple of days ago and it's $3.07.

Where are you in AZ? The cheap stuff by my apartment in Tempe was $2.81 yesterday, but I saw one in Central Phoenix at $2.78. Of course, those are probably up by a few pennies today...I really need to win the lottery.

Gas and diesel rose 6 cents this morning to $3.25. This is no surprise since fishing season opens next weekend and that is one of the biggest weekends of the year for tourists to travel to the area. I expect gas to be at least $3.50 by Memorial Day weekend, that's the busiest weekend of the year!

I'm parking my truck and walking at least for the summer.

High Fuel Prices Blamed for Expensive Gas

(2006-04-22) — A spokesman for the U.S. oil industry today said the cost of gasoline at the pump has increased lately due to the high cost of fuel.
Industry expenses have increased substantially for company cars, corporate jets, tank trucks, ocean-going oil tankers, shipping refinery parts and other operations dependent on petroleum products, the unnamed industry source said.
“When the high price of fuel jacks up the cost of delivering gasoline to the consumer, we need to recover that cost some way, and that means higher prices at the pump,” he said. “That’s just petroleum economics 101.”

At the rate they keep raising prices, I expect that they will raise the price as I'm pumping the gas. I took a deep breath and filled the Pathfinder up with premium this morning @ 3.18 (when you round up the tax). Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Re: How much are you paying for gas?

So what's the bottom line? For me, about $500 more a year for gas. There's no alternative other than spending $500 less elsewhere, or begin taking a bus to work (which I ain't doin'), or trying to increase salary. You can always use Bush economics and borrow the money if you don't have it, but that's a bad idea. It's a current expense, so pay for it out of current funds. It stinks, but there are far worse problems.

I noticed grocery prices are starting to creep up too. Several items that were $2.99 are now $3.49 and I'm sure the increased cost of gas has something to do with it. The fact is we're going to have to pay for these gas increases in almost everything we buy.

Re: How much are you paying for gas?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: gas price increases have as much to do with regulation as it does with supply/demand. The goverment mandates that five or six regions of this country each use a specific formulation of winter and summer gasoline blends. It's costly and time consuming for refineries to make these changes, and it translates to price hikes you can bank on every spring and fall (for the summer and winter conversions).

Same here. The lowest I saw was $3.09, and this morning I paid $3.15

I actually told my daughter "no" last night when she asked me to bring her and a bunch of her friends to another friend's house last night...they live about 15 miles away. That would be 30 miles...and I'm not wasting gas so she can go to a friend's house for 2 hours.

I felt bad, but I already had put $60 worth of gas in my vehicle this week.

I know. I usually put in $10 at a time because I am mainly just driving around town. But the last $10 I put in only got me 3.1 gallons.
