Let's give it up for our streaking DH/OF who seems to be enjoying a nice resurgence. If Bernie can keep this up, teams are in deeeeeeeep trouble. Strength at the bottom of the lineup is dangerous.

Good for Bernie. I suspected that he would improve when he didn't have to play CF and believe that he's nowhere near as bad as his 2005 numbers.
That said, I still have my concerns. But, to this point, Bernie is proving me wrong and I love it.
I have no association with "TEPLimey" at nomaas. Apparently a very disturbed individual likes to get their rocks off on pretending they are me. Sad, really.
I have to be honest, while i think he's earned it, he's not really my type. I don't swing that way..

His OPS is still pretty low despite the boost in batting average.
Over/under on Bernie's OPS at .750?

I'm a little biased cuz bernie has been my favorite player for more than a decade now, but seeing him doing well after having the media and fans ................ on him is very pleasing.
My opinion is that we don't need another masher on the team, we need a guy who gets on, and then sets up the big boppers. Damon is that guy at the top of the order. I hope bernie is that man at the bottom. It's like a double threat when it rotates back to damonNot that I wouldn't prefer a higher .OPS and all, but, if he's gonna get singles/walks/outs that move a guy over, and therefore helping the OPS of our bigger bats, then he's an asset no matter how you look at!
Just no more nights of 3 K's looking, Bernie, that was awful. Maybe he needs his goggles back![]()

Definately enjoying his good start...lets hope Bernie keeps it up and puts together one more solid year in pinstripes

He's been pretty good so far, but has shown no power yet. If he only played vs. rightys, his numbers will improve overall.

Let's go for #28! A-Rod for 2010 AL MVP!
No one will match that. Seriously, it was like Jesus, Moses and Muhammed were all coming up to bat together. I don't think we'll hear anything like that in the stadium again until Mo's final game.Originally Posted by KLJ

I love Bernie, and I love that his BA is high, but his OBP and his SLG don't justify giving him a lot of DH at bats. He's a champion, a man with a deep inner fire, a guy who had a really good run.

Still, Bernie gets lots of love from me. He'll always be one of my favorite players, and I hope he just gets one more streak like Tino's 10-gamer from last year.
He's probably the best overall player in the league right now...
Calmer than you are.
enough with the bernie love, jeezus.. you all are going to make me hate the guy by the end of year :/

What's so odd about this is that Bernie traditionally started every single seaon in TERRIBLE slumps.

What a bargain for the Yankees to be able to sign BW for another year, marking his 16th.
Looking forward to him adding to his ML leading Post Season stats in HR, RBI, and RS.

Please retire.

amen. this is what baseball is, a day to do thing. may love him one day, may hate him the next day. now i hate him. and people will hear about it and better not complain because when he did something good, you guys were all over him. Now we are.Originally Posted by Rich

Im more mad at Torre for letting him hit in that sitaution than Bernie hitting into the double play. As i said in the game thread, You bunt Damon with 2 on and no out in the 4th inning Vs KC, but you don't bunt Bernie with 2 on and no out in the 8th inning down 2 with Damon and Jeter up next? Something is wrong with that picture. Damon doesn't ground into 2B plays and has a better bat than Bernie, but Bernie gets to hit and Damon doesn't.....

Bernie should've retired. The Mets could have him and throw in Wright and a bag of balls as well.
There are a lot of threads on here about Bernie, but I figured I would bump this one because I like the title. Lost in all the trade AROD requests is the fact that Bernie may have played his last game.
On the postgame tonight, he said he wasn't sure what he was going to do and he was going to think about it. Bernie had always said he still wanted to play, so this seems to be a departure.
With that being said, if Bernie indeed has played his last game, I would just like to tip my cap to a class act, a wonderful person and a talented ball player. From batting titles, gold gloves and post season MVPs, Bernie has been a fixture of the Yankees for the past 15 years and I have loved watching him.
Although I know many on this forum get on him for his noodle arm and his now lacking range, I still remember him from back in the day where, yes he still had bad jumps, but he ran like a Gazelle.
So, here's to Bernie. I will be sad not to see his face in the dugout, but thanks for the memories - you have been such an important part of this team for so long.
Thank you Bernie, God Blees You.

Hopefully Bernie's career is over. It's been a great one. And Yankee fans will never forget him. But it's long overdue.
Re-Sign Bernie
I really think it would be a good idea. There were definitely be some new faces next year, and the team could use some of the Old Guard to make the transition to the next dynasty. Besides, Bernie is a great option if he's used just like he was this year, and you're also getting a great clubhouse presence. I say re-sign him.Originally Posted by YankeesRule51

No. Bernie is an old player whose limited skills (hitting lefthanders) are going to diminish even more next year.Originally Posted by nyyfanatic85

I am so glad that I'm a Yankee fan. When I look around the sports world, there's really nothing that compares. There are a lot of fans, for a lot of teams, that would like to get to where we've been these last few years. Their successful year doesn't equate to what we consider a successful year.
Over these last many years, we, as Yankee fans, have had the priviledge of watching Bernie Williams play. Sure, he was no DiMaggio. Who is? Nor was he Mickey Mantle. But he was Bernie Williams. Day in and day out, for his entire career. Quiet, unassuming, talented, classy. And, a terrific, terrific hitter.
Thanks for the ride Bernie. It was great.
