    Coffee

OK no offense to anyone but I just don't see how anyone can drink the stuff. Around the central IL area, the local McDonald's are offering "Free Coffee Mondays" where they give away the new premium roast coffee for free. "I thought hey, here's my chance- I'll finally give coffee another try."

I figured that with the premium stuff, loaded up with sugar and cream, I couldn't go wrong. I tasted a little bit and couldn't stand it! How do you guys drink it?

Coffee is good. McDonald's coffee is not. Go to Dunkin Donuts and try again, you've been misled.

    Re: Coffee

#1 Do not load up sugar and cream in coffee. You muddle the taste.

Buy yourself some premium coffee. Zabars, Citarella, or go to a specialty store that sells beans. Buy a French Press or cone drip machine.

I am enjoying my Fairway med ground Dark roast as we speak and about to have another.

Lots of good advice here. Use creme and sugar lightly if at all, and make sure you get a medium brew, not too strong or it will be overly acid and not hot to the poing of boiling, you'll never be able to appreciate the taste then.

If that fails, try a good dark beer.

    Re: Coffee

I'm not a fan of coffee either. I usually only drink it if I'm hungover and want my headache to go away at work or if it smells really good then I give it a try and realize it never tastes as good as it smells.

I do, however, like cappuccino. Especially with Baileys and Frangelico.

I'm with you. I would estimate that in my entire life I have had maybe 2 sips of coffee. I couldn't stand it either time. I don't even like the smell of it.

I've been drinking coffee since I was 6, so I'm used to it and I love it. And McDonald's is a horrible place to try to get into coffee

McDonald's coffee makes me sick literally. I can't drink that.

When I do drink coffee, it's usually heavy on cream, low on sugar.

Coffee is an acquired taste, like beer. I liked coffee ice cream as a kid so I grew to like hot coffee that's flavored with enough cream and sugar to taste like the ice cream. The caffeign is very addictive, and comes into good use at 6:00AM.

I like coffee flavored things. I just don't like coffee. I used to eat coffee ice cream all the time when I was little also, but I still don't like to drink it. Iced coffee is much better than hot coffee, IMO.

I like mine with just cream (whole milk or half and half) ... and either hazelnut syrup or hazelnut flavored coffee. I'm in the minority in that I don't really care for Starbucks, except for the Cafe Mocha with whipped cream.

Yes it is, but that's because they put a lot of bad things in there, like heavy cream.

I love coffee but hardly drink it because I am too lazy to make it in the morning, and I don't feel like spending money on it most of the time. If I do get it, from some place other then home, I go to Dunkin Donuts because it is fairly cheap there. I normally drink it black or sometimes with a little French Vanilla. Never drink McDonalds coffee. I don't know whats in it but it taste horrible and I actually get more sick from it than I do from burgers on the dollar menu. That stuff is toxic.

I drink their frapps, but I also drink the hot coffee in the winter as well. My fave is the White Chocolate Mocha with non-fat milk and some whipped cream on top.

I didn't start drinking coffee until senior year in College and now I have to have a cup each day.

I love Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla Coffee (very lite & sweet) and their Caramel Swirl Lattes.

When I want to treat myself I get Starbucks, either their frappucinnos or a Caramel Macchiatto.

McDonald's/BK/Wendy's coffee pretty much sucks because they don't sell a lot of it and it hangs around too long.

Newly fresh brewed is a key. The places that sell tons of coffee are always selling it as soon as it's brewed.

    Re: Coffee

Never drank coffee until I was a junior in college and I came back to my room to find my roomie had made some great smelling froo-froo coffee (french vanilla I think), he followed it up the next day with chocolate raspberry flavor. By the end of the week I was hooked. Now I have drunk (drank, drunken?) coffee around the world...everything from instant coffee to gourmet south american coffee and of course several of the many independant chains that are in the parking lots of stores throughout the beautiful northwest (oh Wa. St. how I miss thee). The quality of the coffee really doesn't depend on the type, temp, method of brewing, or condiments, it really depends on the setting. I have had great cups of instant coffee while camping, watching the sun come up over the mountains. I've also had great cups of Army coffee (which is literally made in huge vats by boiling water and dumping the grounds in, then "shocking" it with cold water - some of you vets know what I mean) as long as it's at the right time...usually when cold, wet, and muddy. Those of you who haven't experienced Turkish or Arabic coffee should really give it a try.

Love it. And the reason McDonald's is doing this is because they changed their coffee and I think the "bold" is pretty good. Much better than Dunkin Donuts which tastes like coffe-flavored water. But I would only get it in the morning when it is fresh. Mostly though, I just make it myself.

I have one and switch back and forth when I get tired of the coffee maker or the percolator. I have a few different methods of making coffee acually...the french press, the vacuum pot (which was great but the carafe finally broke), the standard electric coffee maker (I hate the one I have now, the coffee is never hot), the stove top percolator (the one we use when RVing), and the electric Corning percolator.

The press is good, but you have to pour and drink the coffee right away as it doesn't stay warm long enough.
I never noticed grit in the coffee...try switching to a coarser grind, or grind your own not so fine.

I like coffee but I don't see how it is such a big deal to people also. I like it but I don't need to have it to function. I often avoid it to save time and money in the morning. Some kids in my school can't make it through the first class without their expensive starbucks stuff.

I've had jamocha (sp?) milkshakes and love 'em!! It's just the straight coffee that's totally and completely revolting. I smelled the cup this morning thinking that maybe this time, I would like it...the smell was that good. Then when I tasted a little sip, I wanted to puke.

Count me in with the sad weaklings. I depend on coffee to get me moving in the morning.
