Hmm, I wonder if they boys have changed their mind on the Angels over A's in the AL West pick now that several news outlets have picked the A's. I'm sure we will also be treated to Dr. Francessa's diagnosis of Damon's injury or injuries to his shoulder(s) which has been mentioned here in the past. Perhaps we may even hear Mike utter the statement "You cannot replace Bernie Williams with Andy Phillips" when the subject is broached that Phillips should get more at bats than Bernie becuase it will better help the team. Oh yeah Mike will also say "Beckett is a horse."Originally Posted by Yankees1962

Fatboy just cant accept that Bernie is in the twilight of his career. I can totally hear this coming out of Francessa's mouth.Originally Posted by Wade_Taylor

Torre just said that Mike Myers has been effective against righties.
The bullpen is doomed.
As in effective this spring or historically effective?Originally Posted by DiMaggio5CF
This spring. But once Joe gets an idea like that in his head, the only thing that can shake it is Cashman dumping the pitcher.Originally Posted by Wade_Taylor

I heard this today...Did Coltrane actually exist? This is like being blind for 50 years, regaining sight, and then peering directly at the sun.
I forgot what did he say about Wang?

He also said Tanyon Sturtze is a wash with Farnsworth and can be a setup man.
And that Jaret Wrong could be one of the opening 4 starters.
Is he ................ing insane?

What he says and what he actually does are two different things.Originally Posted by JamieMadrox

Get ready for a year of Bernie Williams playing 150 games and RF half the time...I can't believe we signed this guy.
It's not even his fault, Torre is an idiot.
He "likes" how Bernie has been playing RF, is he ................ing insane? Get ready for teams singling to right with a man on first and a run scoring...
Or any groundball single to right field by a fast runner being a double...
Teams are going to run on our outfield this year like it's their jobs, it's going to be ................ing pathetic.
So we're whining about Bernie before we even see how he hits?

I'm going to wait to see. But Joe does have a track record of sticking to "Joe's guys" long past it is evident to most that it's not working out (ala Todd Zeile and Enrique Wilson). I do agree it's not fair to blast him for something that has not happened though. My fear is that if Bernie has indeed lost it, Joe doesn't wait until July to adjust.Originally Posted by 38Special

If Joe Torre didn't have flops like Felix Heredia on his resume, maybe I wouldn't be worried. Joe Torre's weakest area has been, arguably, bullpen usage. And when Joe Torre says something about Mike Myers being good against right-handed hitters, that's a bad sign.
It's just JFR being JFR.

Torre is clinically insane.

Guys on the Devil Rays are going to get groundball singles to him and go right to second base. Fast runners are oging to score from first on singles to right field. How can Bernie Williams possibly play RF, it's completely ridiculous.
Regardless of what he says on sports radio, Joe is showing a remarkably open mind where Jorge and Randy are concerned. Looks like Jorge will get a shot, but Joe is happy his backup has familiarity catching the Big Unit. In his YES preseason interview tonight, RJ noted that he won two Cy Youngs with Stinnett behind the plate.
"I'm not saying that I'm not going to make a decision to have Jorge have a day off when somebody pitches regularly -- and if it's Randy, it's Randy," Torre said. "I'm not going to close any doors, but I'm not going to stay away from the fact that they can work together."
And,
"It's much different than it was last year, as far as trying to get that comfort level," Torre said. "If it doesn't work, we'll do something. We're going to start out with Jorge catching Opening Day, and what we do subsequent to that remains to be seen."

It's not Bernie's hitting that I'm concerned with as much as his ability to play the outfield.Originally Posted by 38Special

I do not post on NoMaas. That silverdsl is not this silverdsl.
Is Torre's only reason why he is so committed to using Wright in the roation because they dont want to have a $7million dollar long reliever/spot starter. In the early part of the season Torre should roll the dice by starting Proctor or DeSalvo to see what they have, so in July if a starter gets hurt the Yanks can avoid using a retread like May & Redding in 05.
Have you seen Bernie play RF in ST. I have to admit, I have been pleasntly surprised. No I don't see him winning a gold glove in right, but I think you have to give him some credit for the way he is adapting. The other day, he cut off a ball going into the gap and held the runner to a single. Yes its just one instance, but its one instance more than the bashers have. He's had a great spring, which isn't typical for Bernie, so let's hope he can carry it into the season.Originally Posted by JamieMadrox
Joe has been very open in saying that Bernie's role will be different. I don't think he is going to run him out there if he can't do it. I am also hoping that resting/dhing will help keep Bernie fresh. The past two years have been bad for him (a lot because of his shoulders), but he still can be a good hitter.
