help me with my xm satellite radio

I bought the delphi myfi portable radio that is used from a seller on ebay. I think I am having a technical issue but i am not sure. it says to tune it to channel 1 which I did and it shows a preview of all the channels. I guess the channels need to upload before I can listen to them. I have tried activating it and reactiving it again with no luck. I am still not able to listen to the radio. I have it facing at the southern sky like it said to do while it is uploading. I hope you people know what I am trying to ask. I have no idea what I might be doing wrong. I called XM and they said it might be a technical issue but I am not really sure. When it is supposed to be done up loading, I should be able to see other channels like channel 7 or something like that but my radio is not getting up to that point. All I am getting is channel 0 for the 8 digit code, channel 1 for the preview and some other channel for an emergency thing.

I hate to say this, but it sounds like it might be broken. There's nothing to "load" as the channels and their info are beamed directly to your receiver. Now I do not own the MyFi, so if someone does and knows differently by all means correct me.

I would try XM again and get some tech support on the phone to rule out all the possibilities.

I agree with BBTB that you should call XM again. When I got my MyFi, I had to repeat the activation process twice. The second time I went outside with it to make sure I was getting a strong signal. Satellite reception is usually better at night so that might be the best time to activate. The instructions say it usually takes 10-15 minutes to activate but during busy times it can take up to an hour. I activated my car unit on Christmas day and it took around 45 minutes. XM may also be able to give you some history on the unit (when it was last activated and if they had any calls for service on it). Good luck. If you can get it working, you will love it.

We had a problem reactivating ours in the car after we let the trial period expire. If you are getting channel 1, your signal is fine. Ours finally activated after about an hour.

at least you didn't get Sirius, equipment is one area XM has the edge. I would never buy something like that on ebay. The guy could have dropped it in a toilet for all you know. But questions. While outside, did you have a relatively clear view to the sky? Were you behind a building? Also, it is important to wait the full time. I would wait longer like YankyDave did.

We've had XM for a couple of years now, only ever had ONE authorization problem which was easily fixed.

Since I work with satellite receivers, it could be that you have a flash ram error on this unit that made it lose it's ID #. Have you contacted the seller to let them know that they sold you a bad unit? If they knowingly did - or do not offer a resolution - you COULD report them to eBay.

Meantime, you could check with XM and see what they can do for you. There SHOULD be a way to re-program the serial number ID back INTO the unit - we have that problem here from time to time and can re-program units' ID with a laptop.

I have a myfi and one thing I learned is that you have to have it in the stand with both the antenna and the electric plug, plugged in. Mine kept saying antenna and I thought that meant there was no signal (the antenna plug wasn't in all the way). Have you tried it in the stand (either for the car or home) and faced the antenna to the south?

    Good luck with it.

BTW..It took about 45 minutes for mine to be read.

I'm surprised they haven't blamed it on the unit you bought second-hand. That'd be my first guess. I've never heard of a unit being this hard to activate.
