Sounds fun. But why does the French speaking city have the oldest Irish parade?

I'll be at the Beacon Theatre on St. Patrick's Day watching the Allman Brothers!
I heard this today...Did Coltrane actually exist? This is like being blind for 50 years, regaining sight, and then peering directly at the sun.

I'll be in Jupiter watching the Yankees play the Cardinals.

Later at a combination St Pattys Day Party/ 'belated' Wedding Reception...They had small civil ceremony 3 weeks ago and decided St. Patricks day would be a great day to hold the Reception.
Casey / McKee...can't get more Irish than that...

It's not Good Friday, but during Lent, you can't eat meat on any Friday.

Historically, NY Archbishops have given dispensation when St. PAtrick's falls on a Friday in Lent.

We're celebrating with the family tomorrow night - dinner at home. Corned beef and cabbage, hopefully some colcannon, soda bread, Guinness and Jameson's to be sure. Any leftover corned beef gets converted to hash.

    Oh, and the Irish Coffee...

    SkiWI for St. Pats. lol

When they were actually open, Brodie Mountain used to let people ski for free if they were wearing green, and they would also dye some of the snow green.
Though I've never taken advantage of that cause Brodie sucks.

    Re: St.Patrick`s Day

The last time I made corned beef and cabbage, I got a relatively small corned beef (2 lbs at most), half a head of a small cabbage, one of those baby carrots things. I should've just dropped the potatoes in there, but I just steamed them separately.

Afterwards, I added the spices that came w/the corned beef and dropped in 24 oz of Heineken. Does Guinness work better? I'm curious how everyone else makes it.

I only bought a small corned beef, as my prior efforts came out pretty bad. This one came out pretty good. Not the same firm cut as I would like from an Irish restaurant, but at least it tasted like corned beef. Just didn't slice too well on my small deli slicer.

It's a Friday, but our bishop usually gives us a dispensation if it falls on that day...so my wife makes corned beef, with all the fixens.

Well, not the cabbage--or I'd have to sleep outside.

My parents got a dispensation to make corned beef and cabbage as well. My mom makes colcannon as well, and I usually eat that with the cabbage and the carrots.

    I'm getting hungry already.

Colcannon is a traditional Irish dish similar to "Bubble and Squeak". Any leftover vegetables could be added or substituted if you desire. Single cream makes this dish irresistible but milk can be used instead for a lighter result.

4 large potatoes approx 2 lb
    7 oz cabbage
    4oz of butter
    2 to 3 scallions
    ½ cup cream
    freshly milled black pepper
    salt to taste
    freshly chopped parsley

Peel and quarter the potatoes, place them in a large saucepan of cold salted water. Bring to the boil and cook the potatoes for 15 to 20 minutes or until they're tender. Drain thoroughly and mash with a fork, or mashing tool. Shred the cabbage and cook in a medium pan of boiling salted water for 10 to 12 minutes. Drain the cabbage thoroughly, add the butter, finely sliced scallions and freshly milled black pepper and stir through. Return to the heat for 2 to 4 minutes. Gently warm the cream in a small saucepan or in the microwave. Combine the cabbage mixture with the hot mashed potatoes and enough warmed cream to give a creamy texture. Add salt to taste.

Serve immediately topped with an extra knob of butter, and plenty of freshly chopped parsley.

    (Serves 4)

In case anyone is interested (or if this applies).... Archbishop Mansell of the Hartford (CT) Archdiocese has granted dispensation in regards to eating meat for St. Patrick's Day. He has asked that you substitute another day during the week in it's place.

I usually go for lunch on St Paddy's Day to an Irish bar on the East Side of Manhattan that offers free corned beef and cabbage and a glass of green beer. Needless to say, the place is like a mob scene on that day.

I'm so happy that this is my last St. Patrick's Day I will spend underage. I'll be 21 in June, so next year, I can really celebrate with the rest of my friends.

I'm nearly 100% of Irish heritage. Yet I'm not a big fan of St. Patrick's Day.

Fo those who are... Have a great day. Be safe.
If I had 3 wishes... One of my wishes would be to make a select few of you Pirates Fans.

We are actually having a small party here at the house tonight. We were planning to go out with 4 other couples, but not everyone could get a sitter and some had a few extra expenses this month so we changed it to a house party. Any suggestions for St Pats party food or drinks are welcome...I still have to make 1 more run to the store so give me some ideas!
