Thread: The Official WWE and TNA thread

On the R-Truth thing...maybe this is just the casual watcher in me talking but since it's all scripted & he's an awesome worker...can't they just make him into a main eventer? I know crowd response is the most important but like I said, I'm just casual...I rarely watch but the times I catch him, he seems to be pretty over with the crowd. I've liked him since his K-Kwik days.

Orton may have all the tendencies down, but he's a horrible worker and his matches are very very boring. For as bad as Cena is with the predictability in his matches, he can at least work a match, and carry a match. Cena/Batista at Mania this year was one of the better matches of this year, I can't remember the last time Orton had a great match like that (except against Cena actually)

In regards to R-Truth, don't think there is much overness with him, they just like his little chant. He's not a great worker, he actually isn't very good on the mic (other than the singing). He's a midcarder at best.

The terrible worker comment is laughable at best. He's obviously not Shawn Michaels, but he can wrestle.

I agree with the R-Truth comments for the most part. He is a very good worker, but he is terrible on the microphone. That will kill you every time.

Everybody gets on Cena for his "5 moves of doom". Orton is the same thing. Just because he pounds his hands on a mat, does not mean he's a good wrestler. He doesn't do anything other than a suplex, the RKO, foot stomps, etc etc. It's quite boring to watch.

Austin essentially used 5 or 6 moves every match once he became a huge face when he started feuding with Vince. He got over cuz of this storytelling in the ring, his acting, and his promos. Rock was the same way. Orton is doing the same right now.

What makes Cena unbearable is that his promos are god awful. He tries to be funny w/his stupid jokes....and nobody is laughing. Its the same old sh*t with him--either he's trying to insult people (and doing a bad job of it) or its the "I'll never quit, never give up, fight the good fight" boring/stale babyface crap.

Incorrect. Even after Austin's neck injury, he was still the superior worker in the ring. Before, it was no contest. Take a look at his matches with HHH in 2001. They are godly.

Lets make this clear. Austin was the best promo guy in WWE history. Rock is a close 2nd. nobody else comes close. Orton isn't even in the same area code. He's not a very good promo guy at all. Ever hear him talk? It's painful. What he's got going for him is a badass persona. That's all. They don't put him on the mic a ton for a reason.

Cena is very annoying, I agree. But give me a Cena PPV match any day over an Orton PPV match. Remember Mania main event last year? Yeah the booking for Cena gets old after a while, but the man can work a match.

Cena's promos are really cringe worthy...not even PG Rated.

I remember once especially (somewhat recently during the anonymous Raw GM thing) where he goes "Son of a Rascal Flats, Michael Cole! I haven't been this mad since my mom cancelled my Warcraft subscription." I actually felt a little embarassed at that.

You dont have to sell me on Austin's ability to work....I loved him since his days tagging with Pillman in WCW and his work in ECW was fantastic. He was allowed to work a different in-ring style back then (and even in his early wwe days). But the WWE really turned him into a brawler when he started to get over w/the crowd. Punch, punch, stomp, stomp, Lou Thesz press, drop the elbow....stunner...1-2-3. That was his formula match during the timeframe from 1998-2003. Now there were times where WWE allowed him to work outside of that--mainly in some of his PPV matches with Bret, HBK, HHH in 2000-01, the series of matches he had w/Rock in 97, 98, and 2001, and some of his matches w/Angle and Benoit. He really flashed his talent in those matches, but more often then not during that timeframe he was a 5 move guy....just like Cena and Orton are. Now the big difference is that Austin HAD the ability to do more, they just didnt book him to. Cant argue w/that cuz the way he was booked during that time worked....a bad ass guy, who just came out there to "stomp a mudhole in someone's ass", drop a stunner, 1-2-3, chug some beer. It worked fine. Remember its very hard for a guy to get over just on his work rate. There havent been many.

The Rock was similar....alot of the time he had formula matches during the height of his popularity but he did show off more talent when he was in the ring w/certain guys. I dont think Cena and Orton have that ability...both are limited. Why I like Orton is because the way he is booked--this is why he is over. Cena? They book him to cater to the kids. He is lame, his character has no edge to it. His promos suck. And his matches do too....99% of the matches he's had in his career that can be considered good have been carried by someone else (Jericho, Edge, Michaels). The Batista match at WM was a rare exception where I can say he really showed more then I thought he had. So why isnt he booked to look like that more often? Why is he booked to be "SuperCena"? The lame promos? Its horrible.

This is why I will take Orton. Because I am entertained by his character. Nothing Cena does entertains me at all. If WWE's smart, with Orton over the way he is....they turn Cena heel. Have him turn against his fans, say he always fought for them but they never appreciated him etc etc....give him some of that attitude and personality he had back when he first became popular during his heel run/very early face run.

More evidence that the PG-era in pro wrestling won't top the uncensored, over-the-top TV-14/M era pro wrestling had in the mid-1990s to 2001.

Every popular wrestler has his basic 5 or 6 moves. Flair, Triple H, Austin, Rock, Bret Hart, Cena, Orton, Batista, etc. The rest of their matches are filled with clotheslines and rest holds.

Austin definitely was the best talker in WWE history and in that regard, Orton will never catch him.

Orton bothers me with his little pound the mat garbage. We know you are angry, we don't need to see him half the match pounding the mat for no reason.

More reason why WWE needs Jim Ross back, JR always knew how to explain something while making it sound more important than it really was
