What companies should I invest in?

So I have $500,000 in fake money to build a portfolio. I already have an idea of what companies to invest in but, I'd like to invest in some up and coming ones so my return is greater. So, anyone have any suggestions?

When do you have to sell? 2 months? 3? 6? If it's a short period of time like that, you certainly want to go small cap and try to hit a winner. Big companies wont make you anything in that period of time.

Who expects it to go to 40? I don't see a single analyst that even notes it, not mind a 1000%+ increase in the upcoming months. It certainly seems overvalued to me at 3.50, not mind 40.

that’s the main thing if it only a few months contest take a shot at a home run... now I just buy mutual and stocks that pay a dividend. But I sometimes roll the dice and take a shot … IMDS at 13 cents. I sold it once for 6 bucks .

I haven't ventured into mutual funds, i play mostly small cap for a 10 - 20% increase and sell. Miss some big things by getting out early, but in the long run stay in the green. Gold is ready to fly through the roof.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc at 360 was the biggest miss i will every have. i hope.. i only had 3600 bucks and thought what good will 10 shares do.. 875,000

Go small cap then, something < 5 and try to make $2.00 a share on it. When do you have to buy?

With a short time frame, I agree with those who say go with a small cap. Stocks like Pfizer and IBM are for long term investors as the stocks do not move quickly.

Check out UGHO. They could have a big move soon as they are into RFID ( used for cargo security) and are beginning to sell a LED flashlight that also shoots pepper spray. The flashlight is designed to replace a flashlight and pepper spray on a Police officers belt...kind of a 2 for 1 deal. The LA police just started a pilot proigram.

This could give you a huge bang in a short time frame.

it is overvalued and is being held up by hedge funds. The 40 dollars I mentioned is actually the middle road that analyst have told me. some see it being able to go to 60, some say 20, when the find the gold. I have some contacts who are heavily involved in this.

even so, it is rare that one comes across a stock that is so cheap and can go pretty high, and will do it quickly. The next week will be a big one for OMR, they are having a conclave about the international waters this week.

JDSU made like a 23 % move last week( 3.01 or so to 3.70 ) .its is suppose to reverse split sometime . it will do a run up before that happens maybe to 4 or 5 . (I guess ) I thing the teacher should have had someone use the dart board method also to see how that worked out

good for bellsouth ..AT&T will pay 1.325 of its own shares for each BellSouth share. Based of Friday's closing price of $27.99 for AT&T shares, that works out to be $37.09 for each BellSouth share, an 18 percent premium from the Friday closing price of $31.46 for the company. ...in the long run good for T
