A first grader was suspended for three days after school officials said he sexually harassed a girl in his class by allegedly putting two fingers inside the girl's waistband while she sat on the floor in front of him.

The boy's mother, Berthena Dorinvil, said she "screamed" about last week's suspension from Downey Elementary School, and added her son doesn't know what sexual harassment is.

"He doesn't know those things," she told The Enterprise of Brockton. "He's only 6 years old."...................

Some stuff in the schools these days really goes too far. I know they have to have "no tolerance" policies in the high schools and maybe even middle schools, but this is just beyond ridiculous.

I wanted to have lunch with my girlfriend at her high school (they don't allow students to leave campus) a few months ago until she said that I'd have to wait and get approved and then recieve a visitors' pass. On a day off I'll do that, but I wasn't going to drive 40 minutes to find out that I couldn't see her then have to go back to my school.

There is no excuse for what the kid did, but that isn't sexual harrassment. I doubt if he even knows what that is. He should be punished, but not to this extent.

Punished for what? You don't know what happened there. According to the little boy, the little girl touched him first. That's just what kids do, until they learn to control their impulses. Even if she didn't touch him first, you don't punish a child for that. You don't humiliate and embarrass him. You take him aside privately, and tell him to keep his hands to himself. Then you keep a close watch on the situation. Then you tell the parents. If it continues, then you involve the principal.

Why the district attorney had to get involved in this is a ludicrous.
