I am not a brussels sprouts fan. I'm not sure why not - I eat cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower, but not brussels sprouts.

Anyway, we're having leftover London broil made into cheesesteaks (before all of you in the Weight Loss thread get on me, I'm using fat free cheese and more grilled peppers and onions than meat on whole wheat rolls).

    Destelle - that sounds delicious!

I try not to make them if my kids are having friends over for dinner, but one night I made them when my daughter's friend was here. She had never had them and I told her to try one but not to feel bad if she didn't like them. She ate 3 or 4 and really liked them! I'm glad I introduced something new!

    Btw, I love brocolli rabe.
    What are baby bellas?

I make it every once in awhile. The local pizzeria makes it good, so we sometimes order it there of we're getting wedges or entrees.

I'm thinking baby bellas may be little portabella mushrooms? Or is it portobello?

You got it!! & i have no idea if it's bella or bello, either ...

They had a recipe on the brocolli rabe 'wrapper', too - that said it's good sauteed with white beans, as well. I didn't have any, so that's why I added the shrooms.

Are wedges slices??? I have never heard them called that .

I've seen broccoli rabe at restaurants. It's like some long green veggie thingie. It didn't look like broccoli to me.

Baby bellas are fine. I just have trouble w/mushrooms, since they only last about 2-3 days after I buy them. Avocados are also weird, since they're never ripe when I buy them, and I tend to forget them.

For some reason, wedge seems to be a regional thing. It's a sandwich, like a hero or grinder or whatever people call it elsewhere!
All the Italian take-out menus around here say "meatball wedge".

When I make brocolli rabe, I chop it up a little, boil it first to soften it up, then saute it in olive oil with plenty of fresh garlic. Yummmm! White beans sound good too.

Brocolli rabe kind of looks like the leafy part of the brocolli with little floweretts on them. It's a little bitter and for some it's an acquired taste, but if you can get an order of it at an Italian place, you should try it. It looks more like spinah when cooked, than brocolli.

I know some places it's called pop.

Or sometimes we just say Coke. That's supposed to cover Pepsi or any other similar soda.

My father in law told me to just saute it without boiling it first, but the stems were so tough I couldn't even chew them.

I'm with you 100% on this one. It's soda but the word "Coke" can be used universally to the brown soda.

A wedge is a sandwich. It can be hot or cold. Stupid RI people call them grinders.

Coyote Yankee is my hero--it's a sub. Not a hoagie, thank god, which is what my Phillystine cousins from PA call them.

And it ain't soda or pop, it's tonic for Gawd's sake.

edit: and it's son's birthday, so he picked out dinner, which was American Chop Suey and ice cream cake.

Re: What's on the menu this evening?

    I'm making this tomorrow:
    Roasted Vegetable Medley
    2 cups Brussels sprouts
8 ounces fresh green beans, cut into 2-inch pieces (2 cups)
    2 cups cauliflower florets
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs or 2 teaspoons dried herbs, crushed (such as rosemary, basil, and oregano)
    1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
    2 tablespoons water
3 red, yellow, and/or green bell peppers, seeded and cut into strips

    1. Halve any large Brussels sprouts. Place Brussels spouts, green beans, and cauliflower in a shallow roasting pan. Sprinkle with desired herbs, kosher salt, and black pepper. Drizzle with oil and the water.

    2. Cover with foil. Bake in a 400 oven for 20 minutes. Remove foil; stir in bell peppers. Bake uncovered for approximately 15 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender.

    ...yeah right.
What kind of kielbasa? I am mad about turkey kielbasa. It's low fat and it's SOOOOOOOOOO good!!!!

I hate onions but the cabbage and noodles sound good!

The real deal. No turkey, no soy, no low-sodium, just all natural, fat-filled, sinfully flavorful meat. (He's a chef and wouldn't be able to complete the transaction of purchasing turkey kielbasa, although I wouldn't mind it.) I was pretty good. The carrots beforehand helped, and I only took one scoop. When I finished I left the table, grabbed my water and went to the farthest corner of the house I could find!

    So do I

Seriously, the best rice pudding I've had is the recipe from the Dominos sugar bag. Easy, easy, easy, and just delish.

That sounds great! Have you made it before?

Married to a chef?! You lucky, lucky woman!

I don't think I've ever had "real" kielbasa, to be honest. Actually turkey kielbasa is REALLY good. Trust me; I don't usually like the "low fat" version of anything, but that stuff is damned good. I would tell you if it weren't!

I'll chop up turkey kielbasa and sautee it with chopped up potatoes. I just use no-stick spray on the pan instead of oil, so I avoid the fat from that. It's very simple, but pretty tasty.

I do love the extremely bad for you Polish sausages. OMG, they're so good...
