This is no wine & cheese soiree at the salon, but I had mashed avocado with lemon juice and salt, salsa verde and some Tostitos gold bites.

Re: What's on the menu this evening?

Sadly, I'm about to try a low-nickel diet. No... I'm not hoarding pennies and dimes. I've been suffering from dishydrotic eczema on my hands since August. Nothing's helped -- and I've tried steroids, soaks, antifungal creams, antihistamines, bag balm, zinc oxide ointment.... So since the hubby's going out of town for a week I'm going to attempt a bland diet that contains low or (preferably) no nickel in it.

No tomatoes, corn, soy, chocolate, leafy greens, beer, wine, whole grains, and a lot of other stuff. It looks like I'm allowed milk, meat, eggs, and yogurt. I can't wait... till it's over.

What is great about Pann's is that it is the original 1950's architecture inside and out. The music they play is great. The food is the stick to the ribs comfort food type that they have in a lot of those kind of places. I had Liver and Onions and Pea Soup. I would not recommend the Prime Rib as I had to send it back it tasted so bad. Otherwise I have always liked their food especially Breakfasts which are great there.

I have not tried Gyu-kaku yet but I have been wanting to. I will one of these days.

I haven't thought about tonight yet. Probably more salmon since I have enough left for another meal.

Re: What's on the menu this evening?

I will probably end up making mac & cheese since I have no food in the house and no money to grocery shop until tomorrow.

Going to a Sweet 16 tonight. I think the place is kind of wedding-ish, so it should have good food. I don't know what's on the menu though.

They don't do Sweet 16s in Ct?

The weather is supposed to clear up. I hope.
The invtation says Semi Formal, Black tie optional. I bought a nice black dress, but a couple of my friends are wearing pants because they couldn't find dresses they liked. I dunno...pants don't really say semi-formal to me, but I know there will be people dressed in al kinds of outfits. Kids even came in jeans to my other friend's daughter's paty, even though the invite said no jeans.

I don't know anyone who does a Sweet 16 party unless it's just a girls party where they have their friends over.........but not a big deal like some of the ones I've read about here.

Yeah, I don't know why it's gotten so big around here. Some parties are not so extravagant, but some are and it's ridiculous.

I don't know anything about this place we're going tonight. Another friend said she heard it was more like a casual restaurant. Well, I looked it up online and it's a wedding hall basically with 2 ballrooms overlooking the Hudson. This isn't a cheap party, I'm sure.

Swordfish (for hubby and kids) and salmon (for me)....mushroom and pea risotto except I didn't have the mushrooms and peas so I had to send the husband to the store to get some. The trade off is he stops at his pals house for a few beers. Compromise ya know?

I have leftover salmon so I will serve that. With it I am making a Blood Orange and Arugula Salad I found a recipe for. I have lot of blood oranges to get rid of. I will also make brown rice.

Ballrooms? For a 16th birthday party? Good grief! I wouldn't pay for a place like that for a wedding! If my kids asked for that I'd laugh in their faces.

Dinner...I don't know yet. I need to go to the stinkin' grocery store. I've got nothing here, damn it.

Re: What's on the menu this evening?

This mushroom/pea risotto I made is reallllllly good. I went digging through one of my cookbooks and found the recipe. I'll definitely make it again. It was very easy. For the salmon, I chopped tomatoes and onions and put s&p on top.......should be ready in a few.

You make that all yourself or did you buy it? BTW, salad can be anything. What's in there?

I second that, whole wheat pasta is the only pasta I eat. With the exception of the ravioli I had last night and today.

I went to one of these last night. Spent $90. That stuff is amazing!

I got the 3-pack of the beer bread, the almond pound cake (which the host made with applesauce instead of butter and it was to freaking DIE for), the vanilla bean smoothie stuff, the Si Si Cilantro spice, the Rockin Chipotle, and a Spinach dip. I truly could have easily bought everything on the order form.

Someone asked me to host one of these between Thanksgiving and Christmas which was much too hectic so I couldn't do it. Maybe I should get back in touch with her.

I went to one of those parties about 1 1/2 years ago. The only thing that kept me from ordering a ton of stuff was that it's pretty pricey! Good stuff, though. I remember that I bought the Cinnamon Muffin Melt Mix. Damn, it was wonderful!!

Mmmm. I just took brownies out of the oven. Had one topped off with some vanilla ice cream and chopped walnuts so I guess that's my dinner.

    Brownies

Do your brownies have anything...uh, different in them?

I would host one, but my kitchen is in a state of being renovated still, plus between my dog and two cats, I don't know where I'd keep them all out of the way

Beer bread Best stuff ever. I've been buying since 2003. My party was in February so there was no new stuff like the smoothie, Si Si Cilantro or Rockin' Chipotle. Someone that came to my party is having one so I'll look forward to checking it out there.
