It's the right move, but the Treasury Dept. caved under international pressure, not because Cuba was convincing. Good news is that George can grab some defectors while they're playing here.
Let the kids play.
Now batting for the Cuban National Team, #1, Tony Montana.
Crap. I was hoping they'd keep the ban up, and that somehow they'd have to cancel this stupid thing.

Good to see the Treasury Department stop being douchebags.
I always thought that this was inevitable. Happy to see that Cuba is in. I hope that they make the semi-finals so I can see them in person.

Well if there has to be a WBC then I'm glad that Cuba is in it because they have some serious talent over there.
2009 - World Champion New York Yankees!!
Well, that's settled.
Where Have You Gone, Bernie Williams? Where Have You Gone?
it will be interesting to see how Cuba does in this tournament. Yes, for years they dominated international competitions...but remembered it was only against amateurs.
The program isnt as strong as it once was (we beat them in the 2000 Olympics with a cast of minor leaguers)...and now they will be going up against MLB players.
I dont see how they have any shot of beating the USA, DR, Venezuela or PR

July 1 (182 at-bats):

I think that they would lose 7 game series to all of those clubs, but anything can happen in one game, and Cuba will be playing as hard or harder than any team there.Originally Posted by dabomb2045

Yep. Cuba's gonna get creamed.Originally Posted by dabomb2045
Settle everything on the field. If the Olympics were here, they would be allowed to attend so why not the WBC?

I wonder if there will be any defections.

It's going to be hard, but not impossible. I'm sure the Cuban government will be sending a bunch of their goons to prevent players from doing so.Originally Posted by Kudo

I have been against the WBC from the get go. But if the games have to happen, then this decision was a good one. It would have been a travesty to exclude them since they have dominated international competition and deserve to be there.
