The out years are uncertain, sure, but you have to like this short-term.
ITS FOUR YEARS.
Good god you'd think we signed Barry Bonds to an 8 year deal

To be honest, this to me is more a rumor than anything official.Originally Posted by ring403

Oh no, please let this just be some sort of sick joke...
Still nothing on ESPN News, BTW...
I really hope that this is nothing more than a rumor. I respect the player, but this would be a poor signing.

I'm on the websites ESPN, Yahoo, and NY Daily News, with ESPNews on the TV, and no word of this anywhere.

IF it's four years, I won't be upset, but there is not only doubt on whether it's a 4 or 5 year deal, but also IF there is a deal at all.Originally Posted by 38Special

Four years. It's not that long. It's a presidential term. I mean, come on. These past five with W have just flown right by, right? I mean... not like there's been any problems there, right? I predict the (potential) Johnny Damon era in New York will go as well as George W Bush's first four years in the white house. At least.
(I actually am in favor of this deal despite all the rampant sarcasm and liberalism in that paragraph.)

Well, whatever. He'll be good for two years. It better be a front-heavy deal so we can trade him after two years.
Defensively boston will be better w/o Damon when they trade for Jeremy Reed. Offensively it will hurt them.
Here ya go.
Accept it for what it is---good news. (Hey, for those who say he'll suck in the 4th year--if he helps us to a WS win, I don't much give a sheet what he does the other three years....after all, we haven't won in 5, so 1 in 4 will do)

This has Steinbrenner written over it.
Why are people so against this deal? Damon is a solid player, and if he's signed for 4 years, he'll still be younger than Sheffield when his contract is up. Maybe he plays CF for a year or two, then when there are better options he moves to a corner spot or a DHs.
CONFIRMED ON ESPN NEWS BTW!

Damn, well at least it's only for four years. The Yankees always said if it gets down to 3/4 years they would be interested and it looks like it came down to those years.Originally Posted by ICEBERG18

I love this move.. the 5th year would have made it a horrible move.

Oh Sweet God.
Does anyone think that when he gets his jersey he'll say "But hey, I'm just a caveman...i have no idea about long term contracts, fancy deals and such. I think that little demons cook my breakfast in a "mi-cro-wave" in the morning. I just play baseball..."
