Yeah and the year before that (2004) it was .725 in about 190 ABs compared to 75 ABs in 2005 at DH. I'd say thats closer to what he would do, and thats not good for a DH...

Does Small have any options? Could always stash him at AAA, although I doubt the Yankees will do that. He will regress, but he won't be terrible for the last guy out of the pen. Wright isn't disappearing anytime soon, unless the Yankees pay his contract for someone to take him away for us.

Maybe he felt more acclimated to the DH role last year? I just think without the stress and attention of playing CF and the physical wear and tear he could hit pretty nicely for us next year. Just a hunch on my part, but we'll see.

Of course it wont happen...but I would eat Wright's contract in a second if it meant getting him out of here. Sometimes you just have to admit you made a mistake...take the shame and embarassment...swallow your pride and move on.

The Yankees have been in on Tavarez, it has been mentioned in like every article. The Yankees are not ignoring him.

I'm more concerned about Wright continuing to regress, and get those huge hits...in the head.

I just think there are cheaper, better options like Phillips who can also play 1st base and some other infield positions. I don't want Bernie in the outfield and I certainly don't want a project at 1st base. Phillips is free, Bernie cost money...

Bernie won't be playing the field. I think he'll hit much better if he's the everyday DH than Phillips would. Just my opinion because Phillips has never gotten much playing time, and Bernie has never been a fulltime DH, but I think it's a reasonable conclusion.

Phillips also looks like Pedro Cerrano in Major League when he flails away at off-speed pitches. If he hasnt learned how to hit a breaking ball by now...it will never happen.

It buys a month, and if they don't come up with anyone for CF, they re-sign Bernie and go with a Bubba/Bernie split in CF. (Bernie also DHs a little.)

Looks like there are ALOT of decent bullpen arms that were not offered arb. I feel good about this.

I have to agree, don't think he'd make much of a major league hitter, maybe a decent mistake hitter at best.

Cairo, Christiansen, Dotel, Durazo, Everett, Graves, Looper, Myers, Thomas, Vizcaino, Washburn, G. Williams are the ones I would talk to.

Yankees offered arbitration to OF Bernie Williams, LHP Al Leiter and RHP Ramiro Mendoza; declined to offer arbitration to RHP Kevin Brown, LHP Alan Embree, C John Flaherty, OF Matt Lawton, 1B Tino Martinez, RHP Felix Rodriguez, INF Rey Sanchez and DH Ruben Sierra.
BTW, the Nationals offered arbitration to Joey Eischen, who was a possible Yankee bullpen trget.

He wouldn't require compensation so it wouldn't matter.

How about Al Reyes? I didn't realize how good a year he had last year. He was not offered arb by the Cards either.

He's hurt. He went down the last game of the season and will be out the entire 2006 season (projected). I believe he needs TJ surgery.

I think if he would not have been hurt, the Cards would have offered him arbitration. With that being said, I believe they will resign him once he's healthy if no one picks him up. But, he had a great season.
