    Players offered/not offered arbitration

Any word, specifically on the Yankees, but other teams as well, players that have/have not been offered arbitration?

But we also have Bernie. I think it's safe to say we are offering to Gordon. No to Brown and Bernie.

I would not be surprised if Bernie was offered arbitration with an agreement in place that he will decline so they can continue to talk.

Just saw on espn.com that the Angels declined arbitration on Molina and Washburn. I thought they would offer arbitration to at least one of those guys, so I'm a little surprised.

If this event happens, then you can virtually guarantee Bernie's return to the pinstripes or retirement.

I can't see any team willing to give Bernie a) a decent contract and b) giving up the draft pick.

No arbitration offered to Dotel. It would be awesome if we could sign him to an incentive-laden deal.

.321/.396/.523- That's Erubiel Durazo line from 2004. He was injured in 2005 and only had 152 at-bats, his line was .237/.305/.368.

The A's didn't offer him arbitration, someone might get a steal with him.

Cashman has already said he's not going after any DH's.

It's unfortunate that we can't make a run at him, he'd be a nice addition if we didn't have so many DHs.

So, other than an outside chance of offering it to Bernie, is it safe to say that none of the Yankee eligibles get offered it?

Too, as in we DID offer to Bernie? Leiter isn't a bad move as even if he accepted, we don't have to sign him and two it would be cheap (as a fall back to Myers)

    Re: Players offered/not offered arbitration

Yankees offered arbitration to OF Bernie Williams, LHP Al Leiter and RHP Ramiro Mendoza.
Williams surely agreed to decline it, but he's almost certain to stay with the Yankees now. He'd cost another team a draft pick to sign, and he's simply not worth it at this point of his career. Leiter and Mendoza are also expected to decline arbitration. Dec. 8 - 12:01 am et

If Looper can't effectively close for the Mets, what makes people think he'll be an effective reliever/set-up guy, especially at the American League level?

I'd like to see the Yanks re-sign Cairo but I don't see a spot for him. Unless we platoon him with Cano. The two C's of the infield.

    Re: Players offered/not offered arbitration

Wait.. how does arb work for the regular player whos been in the MLB for 6+ years if he ACCEPTS arbitration. If Bernie accepted arb how would that work out.

    Re: Players offered/not offered arbitration

It sounds like they pretty much offered the three players arbitration more as a "token" move than anything else.

This offseason seems absolutely insane. Probably because the FA class is so weak. I personally think that Yankees are just caught between a rock and a hard place -- in a year or so, the farm system will improve and there will be more trading flexibility. Plus, the unmoveable contracts will hopefully be gone. The "big" moves have bitten them too many times, and I wouldn't be suprised if they fall off a bit this season, but are better for it in 2 years or so.

Because you have to put your 'closer' in in a save situation no matter who the batter is. Looper kills righthanders. Lefthanders kill Looper. All you have to do is use him right.

Oh, and for closers, there's really no big difference between the AL and the NL. It's not like NL closers actually face the oppossing picture.
