Precisely what I said yesterday, just a silly hot stove rumor. Why would you trade the last two attractions on your team? You've got to keep your couple of thousand attendees interested in the team. I would be so happy to see the Marlins move to San Antonio. Baseball in South Florida has obviously been a failure. Where else could you win TWO championships in a decade, your first decade and have absolutely no fan base? It's a joke.Originally Posted by NDBoston

They would be getting cheap pitching with Wang, and even Pavano if we pay a lot of his salary, with Hughes and Henn on the way. Duncan would eventually take over at 3rd for them and Melky as a potential future OF. Womack would fill in for 2B since they just traded Castillo. Proctor can be an effective bat boy, and they have already inquired about him in the Pierre negotiations. We would be getting two franchise players in there early twenties. Cabrera would play Left with Matsui shifting to center, and Willis would be our new Ace for the next 10-15 years years. We would even keep Cano. Although we're trading a lot of prospects, once Cabrera is signed we won't need a OF prospect for a few years (just sign a RF once Sheff is gone), and with Willis we won't have a pressing need for Hughes. Willis also fills Wang's position in the rotation. And i seriously doubt anyone would care about losing Proctor and Womack.
I know its giving up everything we have in the farm, but its not often you can come across players of this calaber. None of our minor league players have potential to be as good as either of these guys. Wang is a 4th starter at best, Henn is a 3rd or 4th at best and i doubt even that will ever happen, Duncan can be good but not Cabrera good, and Hughes is the only one we're really taking a gamble with, but the BEST we can hope for out of him is that he ends up like Willis...and we can't know that for sure. Plus, even if he did, I'd rather want the lefty. Please no comments like "looks like another fan from the 90's who wants to sell the farm" because I've always been against trading so many prospects, but never before (with the eception of A-Rod) have we aquired franchise players, especially that are in their early 20's.

STAYING PUT
Among the Marlins who won't be traded is Dontrelle Willis. Contrary to a published report out of New York, the Marlins have no intention of moving the National League's Cy Young Award runner-up.

Cano, Wang, Duncan, and cash for Dtrain(who more than replaces Wang). Its essentially Cano and Duncan for Dtrain and hes a young (cy young) rising star. Lets move move move!
Yeah, umm, they've already denied they're going to move Willis and Cabrera, so all these trade proposals can stop.
What you dont seem to understand is, 1.) There are a bunch of other teams who could put together a better package for Willis 2.) It would cost more than those 3 to get Willis and 3.) The Yankees are trying to save money and build the farm system to develop their own players like Willis so they can stay competitive and not end up like the 80's teams.Originally Posted by George Steinbrenner

WELCOME JOE.
there is a way to get cabrera by trading cano(if cairo signs), prospect matt desalvo, duncan, cabrera(melky)
So would I, if only it were that easy. Cano and Wang won't be enough for him, IMO.Originally Posted by Martini6196

There is absolutely no way that Willis or Cabrera are traded, much less to the Yankees. I don't know how many times this rumor has to be squashed. This thread should probably be closed, because there is no longer a basis behind the rumor.
This thread makes absolutly no sense.
Anywhere, is there a quote from someone from the Marlins saying these two are available? I've yet to see one.
With the huge firesale the Marlins just had, they probably got some good prospects (I don't recall any names besides Hanley) and they will be ready in a few years, when Cabrera and Willis are still under 20. If they trade those two it would be counterproductive for the future. Willis can dominate the NL for another 7, 8 years. Cabrera probably hasn't even peaked yet. Considering all the kids they just stocked up on, their going to have good team in a few years, with Willis and Cabrera as the anchor.

Instead of trying to be sarcastic, why not come back with some comments to refute what I wrote.Originally Posted by RobbiMan

Prove me wrong.
Does it make sense to keep posting in a thread where you question the validity of the topic?

I was on here yesterday trying to make the point that the Yankees just do not have the chips to get a deal done for either Willis or Cabrera. The setting is different from when the Red Sox acquired Beckett. Mainly, the Marlins no longer have Lowell to dump on anyone. I was glad when your name finally popped into the thread because it lent a rational voice to those of us who were arguing that there is no way the Yankees could make this deal.
My apologies. I'm not on here that much lately with work and haven't paid attention to the thread.Originally Posted by RobbiMan

i would slaughter innocent children to have cabrera on the yankees
There is probably a snowball's chance we get Dontrelle but its fun to discuss, I am not sure how his numbers would translate if he were to switch leagues and get out of Florida, not great I suppose.
On a lighter note I found this article from Sportspickle.com, pretty funny. http://sportspickle.com/features/vol...7-marlins.html

You might rather trade for Zito even though he costs more just because he is in the American league and doesn't rely as much on a funky delivery that puts a lot of stress on his body to be good.
If it came to that, I'd happily fund you with money and arms to get the job done...Originally Posted by Panamaniac42

Do we give up a Chacon, a Small, people like that for this kid? How about Bubba? The Fish need a CF now. How about Phillips? Who else do we have? Do the Fish insist on Duncan?
Would you do Cano, Wang, Duncan, and Henn for Willis? Or wqould you want more return from the Marlins? If so, who?
And if we do that, who plays 2B?
Absolutely, and that should be plenty to get it done.Originally Posted by Quangormo

Hey, sorry to post so late on this, but I just Heard that the Yanks might be able to get Willis. Any possibility they can get Arnold, too. I just loved "Diff'rent Strokes."
