Thread: Gaby Hernandez

    Gaby Hernandez

I am shocked Omar traded him. He was the Met's number 3 prospect and only other real pitching prospect left in the system. He has a much higher ceiling than Yusmiero Petit because of his natural sinking fastball and developing power curve.

Plus, there is a HUGE dropoff after him with Humber out of action until maybe 2007. Their only other ranked pitching prospect is Brian Bannister. Bannister is 25 and throws 87-89 with below average breaking pitches. He relies on a cutter in the mid-80's and doesn't project much as a major league pitcher. I'd rather have Sean Henn than this guy if I was a GM.

There have been a couple of articles about how Omar could have gotten Delgado for a lot less. I think Omar made another blunder. Is Paul Lo Duca worth your number 3 prospect and best arm in your system? Especially when you don't have much depth down there and could have signed Molina or Ramon Hernandez? I think the Mets should take away Omar's cellphone. He is Godzilla and the Met's farm system is Tokyo.

It seems to me that Omar is a horrible GM. He's been given a ton of money which is why the average Met fan likes him.
“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.

Agreed. Awful trade for the Mets. How can you trade a great arm like Gaby for a need that you could've filled with the same production (or quite possibly, more production) for just money. I would be furious if the Yanks did something like this.

Think of it this way. Imagine if we traded Christian Garcia for AJ Pierzynski.

    Yeah it's scary

Isn't this what happened with the Yankees? Trade all the young talent for veterans and screw yourself for the future for a few years? Agreed we won a few rings along the way, but for some reason I don't see the Mets getting that same result.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised that Minaya traded Gaby.... oh well. See LoDuca not hit in Shea.

With all these trades the Mets have made, they definitely have to sign Pelfrey now.

I never thought of it like that, but you know what?

If Cashman did that, I'd be fighting mad!

Pretty good comparison... I would cry.

He's going to be lonely in that barren farm system. Aside from Milledge, who else is left? At least there's no doubt now who has the better farm system in NY.

Omar was suppose to be a sharpe guy and he's getting taken to the cleaners. There must be a curse on Met GM's. Jim got rid of Kasmir which will huant that organization for many years to come and now Omar has successfully emptied the system with the exceptions of Milledge and Carlos Gomez. That organization is in BIG trouble.

Maybe not big trouble, but they have taken a severe body blow. They have most definitely fallen down a few notches.

Why worry about what the Mets are doing? We've got enough of our own issues to deal with.

There in BIG trouble because what they have effectively done is put themselves in a position in a couple of years to have to replace Pedro, LoDuca, Floyd and Delgado all at once and they will all be in the upper 30's so resigning them wouldn't make sense when the contracts expire. No farm system to replace them.
