Thread: Cano's 2004 stats?

    Cano's 2004 stats?

I'm interested to see how Cano did in 2004, and at what level. I was thinking that if Duncan really produces this spring, our 1B problem could be fixed eariler than expected. Giles-Sheff-Matsui could become the starting OF, with Duncan and Giambi switching time at 1B and DH.

Cano took me by surprise a little bit in '05 with how well he did in the minors. It might take time for Eric to learn a new position, which could make him come up a little later. I guess he could primarily DH, with Giambi still taking most of the time at 1B. Basically, I'm just wondering if there is even the slightest chance Duncan could make his REAL debut this year (debut and stick for good), and I remember Cano did surprisingly well in Spring '05. Anyone?

Not going to happen. Duncan has yet to play above AA and when he did play in AA his performance was very poor. Cano played AAA in 04 and still did better than Duncan did in AA this year. Alot of differences between the two.

I agree, it's hard to make that comparison between Cano and Duncan. Robbie had a pretty consistent track record but seemed to make adjustments and get better with each level he advanced to. While he may never be a bigtime OBP guy, he has always been able to make consistent contact. The biggest concern with Duncan are his strikeouts, and it's not going to get easier to hit the ball as he moves up. I'd be happy if he could show some improvements, put up strong numbers in AA for half a season and play reasonably well at AAA to close the year. Start looking at him for real in ST 2007.

Yeah, that is the realistic timetable, I was just wondering if he absolutely destroyed the minors this spring, he could hit the bigs this coming year. I know it is just wishful thinking, and almost definitely not going to happen.
