I'm completely confused now. I have no idea whether you're saying Harrison was there or not.

I found that Dave's sources are correct more offten than google and I'm guessing there is some article (or other odd ball source) showing Harrison - a baseball lover - attending a game of the Washington Nationals in thier 1889 final season.

That Washington team was a NL team. The correct year is 1891 ... the Nationals of the American Association.

Nope. The player in the game turned out to be the league leader in something, in 1891.

Got nearly half his RBIs and his only triple in that game?

Maybe lead the league in 2 categories even? Like Winning percentage and WHIP?

Good old Charlie Buffington perhaps. Though pretty damn impressive making 43 starts if you missed time with a broken bone. That one's probably wrong too.

Nope ... he didn't pitch in the game mentioned. Buffington pitched the next day. Something interesting about what you said though. Buff and his mates were down 0- 2 when he was the first man up in the bottom of the fifth inning. What do you think Buff did? His brown Fall River arms poked that sphere way, way out into right field. Sanders made an enterprising try for it, but it bounded out of his hands and Buff took third on suspicion -- making that only triple you mentioned for that season. Striker then made an out and Buff was still on third. Bases on balls to Radford and Brown loaded the bags and Billy Joyce earned a large portion of his twenty-five hundred dollar a year salary and tied the game when he smacked a grass-burner past Corcoran, on which Buff and Rad tallied. Boston continued on in the inning and scored six runs in the frame.

Buff never gave the lead back in the game. Boston had a big lead in the game when the Athletics tallied their final two runs in the game on Milligan's tremendous drive over the left field fence in the top of the eighth inning.

Buff won the game having given-up nine hits, striking out seven and walking four. Now this might have you scratching your head. After the Athletics retired without scoring in the top of the ninth frame ... the two teams at once took the train to Boston, where they were to play two games the next day.

Also, the guy you're looking for later became a Deputy United States Marshal, at the age of fifty-one.

    Re: Who am I?

You really got me on this one ... I got derailed twice

First, I wasn't aware the Senator/Statesmen were also known as the Nationals in 1891. B-R only shows the Nationals spanning 1886-1889. Since 1889 was the only year that coincided with Harrison's presidency, I had the year incorrectly pegged at 1889.

Secondly, I misread this statement "ongoing four-year career". I read it without the "ongoing" and looked for only careers of 4 years.

Have I had a stroke or something? I signed onto my wife's computer and this is the last post that was posted ... saying we're on page 67 of 67.

The latest game thread I'm seeing is ...

September 15, 2010: Yankees @ Rays (for positive minded Forumers)
We get runs next inning. Warm up Phil.
