Ughh...I guess the best is Offspring. HM to Schooly D. Worst is divided equally among the other 8.
Gotta go with the Offspring as the favorite on this one. Although I do like "Don't Know Why" and "All the Things She Said". I'll say that "Country Grammar" is my least favorite since I don't know all the other songs.

The only person/group I even recognize is Norah Jones and I did not hear one of these songs.

It boggles my mind that Tatu's "All the Things She Said" would place on a top anything list.

    What a crock of isht.

What if there was a list of Eastern European-fake-lesbians-pop songs?

Tatu shouldn't be on this list, another example of why this list is a sham but...

Bright Eyes "Lover I don't have to love" is the best song on the any of the list so far, however it is far from Bright Eyes best.

Let me recommend "Poison Oak" and "First Day of my Life".

Did they take all the hip hop songs and pick them out of hats? " Country Grammar " is better than C.R.E.A.M.? Also Schooly D was ok but they should have put "Am I Black Enough" instead.

Even though it's a song primarily for the ladies simply by the content of the video, Untitled (How Does It Feel?) is the best song on this list for me.

Nelly should be hanging out with Game and Busta somewhere...OFF THIS LIST.

I'm familiar with all of these artists, but not all of these songs. Thumbs up to Go-Betweens, Dead Kennedys, Bright Eyes, Schooly D and Whiskeytown. Complete indifference towards the rest of this group.

You also like to kiss underage teenage girls, so I think most of us expected that.

You said you liked T.A.T.U. and weren't ashamed to admit it! That's very relevant to kissing underage girls!

    A. I don't like Tatu, I liked that one song. I don't know any other song by them.

and 2. Call me old fashioned, but I only like kissing girls that are at least 18!

    450 - Santana ''Smooth"
449 - Len "Steal My Sunshine"
    448 - Junior M.A.F.I.A. "Players Anthem
447 - Flaming Lips "Do You Realize?"
446 - Imagination "Just an Illusion"
445 - Bikini Kill "Rebel Girl"
444 - Wynonna Judd "Tell Me Why"
    443 - U2 "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
442 - Teena Marie "Square Biz"
441 - Simple Minds "Don't You (Forget about me)"

The best song is easily U2. Worst? Either Wynonna or Len (wannabe Sublime from north of the border).

Goodness. I guess the best is U2 though I'm not a big fan. I only do the worst of the songs that I have heard before so while I'm sure I wouldn't like the Wynonna Judd song, I don't know it. So I'll have to go with Smooth by Santana. I am probably one of the few people here who really didn't like that song.

I like a lot of songs that wouldn't/shouldn't make a top 500 list as well. That one surprised me by being included.

For the latest installment, my favorite is Don't You (Forget About Me). Least favorite (of the ones I know) is that Wynonna song. Again...why that song is included on a best of anything list is beyond me.

442 - Teena Marie "Square Biz"
441 - Simple Minds "Don't You (Forget about me)"

The best song is easily U2. Worst? Either Wynonna or Len (wannabe Sublime from north of the border).
Favorite: Simple Minds- Don't You Forget About Me.

Second: Junior M.A.F.I.A. - Player's Anthem. That song brings with it such great memories. Especially the remix. Oh man, we used to be jumping around in cars when that song came on the radio. "Leave the fool caoughin' up blood and his pockets like rabbit ears..."

    and then

"My mind's my nine, my pen's my mac-10. My target? All you MC's who started rappin'"

    Wow, I miss that dude.

Worst: Santana - Smooth. I cannot stand this song.
    Mo' Nut: One Smoove Brotha.

"There is a Light that Never Goes Out" may just be my favorite song of all time.

    From best to worst:
    1. The Smiths "There is a Light that Never Goes Out"
    2. The LA's "There She Goes"
    3. Tori Amos "Cornflake Girl"
    4. L7 "Pretend We're Dead"
    5. New Radicals "You Get What You Give"
    6. Heaven 17 "Let Me Go"
    7. Mase "Feel So Good"
    8. Yoko Ono "Walking on Thin Ice"
    9. Clipse "Grindin'" (never heard this song but I hate Kate Bush so I'm ranking it higher by default)
    10. Kate Bush "Running Up That Hill"

I didn't think you could find a Yoko Ono song to put in a list of top Yoko Ono songs.

None of them. I haven't heard of 99% of them, but the worst should easily be Yoko Ono.

It's ridiculous that it only came in at 431 on the Blender list. I know The Smiths were never really a mainstream band in the U.S., but this song should be in the top 100, easily.

Agreed. There shouldn't even be a question about it. This list really has me disappointed in Blender.

I'm with the folks who are ASTOUNDED that "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" is ranked all the way down at #431. It's not even my favorite Smiths song -- that's a tie between "How Soon Is Now" and "The Headmaster Ritual" -- but there weren't 430 better songs recorded over the last 25 years.

And to put "Walking on Thin Ice" over "Let Me Go"...dear Lord.

I'm beginning to think they just picked song titles out of a hat.

I don't think the list is faulty just because the Smiths aren't in the top 10. The list is faulty because the best songs ever recorded happened before 1980.

The chart is probably based on record sales, chart position, radio plays, and cult status.

There were plenty of great songs recorded after 1980. "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" happens to be one of them.

I don't believe I ever said anything about it being a bad list simply because The Smiths aren't in the Top 10. (For all we know, they are...and now that you brought it up, they probably should be.)

And, FWIW, the definition of the list is the 500 best songs recorded since 1980. What happened before then is irrelevant to this exercise.

    Huh?

To say that there weren't 500 great songs recorded in the past TWENTY-FIVE years shows a very limited knowledge of music.

A lot of popular music is just that, popular. Popular doesn't mean good. Popular means it's likeable enough that throngs of people will buy it, but not necessarily meaning people will buy it 25, 30 years down the road.

Britney Spears is popular. Will people be buying her records in 30 years? Probably not.

In the last 25 years, how many musical genres have we experienced? The tail-end of disco, new wave, rap/hip-hop, grunge, teen pop, and that pseudo-Latin music performed by Jennifer Lopez and Ricky Martin.

I don't think there have been 500 great songs to come out of those genres. The best music came from 1955-1980, and that's the year John Bonham and John Lennon died.

    Decent music went with them.

I feel word for word the same way!

Kinda sad... I'll never have the chance to see most of my favorite bands in concert because less than a handful still have all/most of their members living. Seen the Stones once, just missed out on Cream--maybe the Kinks will get back together someday...

I've gone through periodic bouts of giving "modern" music a shot, and every time I get fed up with it. Most of the modern stuff I listen to is a small handful of hip hop every now and again, Lifehouse, a bit of RHCP. I haven't listened to the radio in 2 years.
