    New iPod

Figures...I buy my very own 20gb iPod 2 months before they come out with the nifty color screen one, and now they announce the release of the new 30gb version with video capablities for the same price ($299) as my non-color 20gb one. Story of my life.

However, this still looks awesome and good for Apple.

I am in the same boat as you. Looks real cool though, I wonder how the battery will preform after a while, because video playback can cripple a thing like that's battery life.

I doon't like IPODS really, i think they are too trendy (there are better mp3 players out there). I've seen these bout 4 months ago by another company, only they were a little more pricey

I'm happy w/ my nano... no need for a 30 gigger. This one is pretty sharp though... very sleek. Though it'd probably be awesome watching a whole season of "lost" on the way to work over the course of a month or so

They will have episodes of Lost and Desperate Housewives available from iTunes for $1.99 they day after the show airs. They made a deal with ABC.

There is no way to keep up with all these ipod releases. I bought a mini 2 months ago. It's now old school.

That sucks but that's how the world of technology is... I'm sure these companies have tech that won't be released for a year, but they have to trot it out little by little so that people keep buying new editions of them.

Its also brilliant of Apple to strike that deal with ABC/Disney, that's definitely the direction entertainment is going.

I don't know which kind of iPod to get? Couldn't you just download (for instance) episodes of the simpsons and upload it to your iPod? If you can't that's lame, I woulden't pay. lol

There are other handheld video and music players(ie. iRivers[different company]) therefore, I don't see the huge deal about this iPod.

The big deal isn't so much the device itself but the ability to buy shows on iTunes.

    It will revolutionize television.

Give it a few weeks and people will figure out how to do that.

There's definitely going to be a huge market for this, but there's a lot of potential here for all types of video.

Yes, a big FU to Apple.

I've had a 60 gig ipod since December. I just got my girlfriend a 30 gig one yesterday. I'm on cnn.com today and see this:

    http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/21/tech...ex.htm?cnn=yes

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Apple may be phasing out its 60-gigabyte Video iPod, according to one analyst who tracks the company.

The company has told its distributors that the 60-gigabyte iPod, which launched in October and retails for $399, is "at risk" until the end of April, meaning that it could be discontinued or replaced, according to Shaw Wu, an analyst for American Technology Research,
It's especially frustrating because 2 years ago I bought her one and just one week later they came out with the new Click Wheel iPods.

Well anyway it's been shipped but still hasn't arrived. On one hand we could just sit on it and bring it back to exchange at the Apple store if/when the new ones come out. On the other hand, it IS a gift, it's still pretty damn cool, and what's the point of waiting when we don't know for sure what's coming. Also, if/when the new ones come out they'll probably be impossible to get and may have some initial defects or something.

Bleh...you're right, it is impossible to keep up. bastards.

I just bought the Nano for $250. I'd be more upset if I actually cared about video capabilities.

Anyway, this is rule # 1 of gadget-buying: the minute you pay for it, it's already outdated. Accept it, enjoy what you have, and move on.

Say what you want about the French, but they just passed a bill forcing Apple to open Ipods to competition (of course Apple could pull Ipods from France):

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...bitunes21.html

French lawmakers approved an online copyright bill today that would require Apple to break open the exclusive format behind its market-leading iTunes music store and iPod players.

The draft law — which also introduces new penalties for music pirates — would force Apple Computer Inc., Sony Corp. and others to share proprietary copy-protection technologies so rivals can offer compatible services and players.

Lawmakers in the National Assembly, France's lower house, approved the bill 296-193. The legislation now has to be debated and voted by the Senate — a process expected to begin in May.

Apple has so far refused to comment on the bill or on analysts' suggestions that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company might choose to withdraw from the French online music market rather than share the proprietary technology at the heart of its business model. Representatives for Apple France did not return calls today.

Under the bill, companies would be required to reveal the secrets of hitherto-exclusive copy-protection technologies such as Apple's FairPlay format and the ATRAC3 code used by Sony's Connect store and Walkman players.

That could permit consumers for the first time to download music directly to their iPods from stores other than iTunes, or to rival music players from iTunes France.

Why is this a good thing? It's Apple's product, is it not? Shouldn't they have the right to dictate what software is used with it? If you don't like it, you can voice your opinion with your wallet - buy something else.

I am an absolute gadget fiend. If it has a power button, I usually want it. Even I realized, a long time ago, that the very nature of technology prevents it from staying in one place for any length of time. That's why after I buy a new laptop or cell phone, I don't concern myself with the fact that I just overpaid for it.

Because I want to see all of these MP3 makers (not just Apple) get some sort of compatibility between their players.

And if Apple wants to cater to you, they should absolutely do it - if *they* feel it's worth it. Government intervention in this issue is absolutely wrong. It's their mousetrap, let someone else build a better one if they think it's such a good idea.

Gov't intervention is wrong, but if it benefits me, I'm all for it

So, anyone ever have this problem with their IPod?

    (I have a 20G 3rd Generation - Click Wheel)

My IPod froze about two weeks ago, I couldn't get it to do anything. Found info showing how to reset (hold down the Menu & Enter buttons at the same time). It reset, nothing was lost, it worked like a charm. Until yesterday.

It froze again (playing the same album actually, which gave me some alarm). I remembered how to reset it and did so. No luck. It tried to reset, but I got an Icon showing an exclamation mark and a folder, it would shut off and then attempt to reset again. I let it be for a couple of hours, tried again with no luck.

Came home from work, looked online for solutions and tried them all (silly things like hooking it up to a different charger, connecting it to ITunes...)

No luck. I could find nothing to do. I was gonna bring it to an Apple Store.

My son said you need to make an appointment for service. I started looking into that and found that they won't do anything if it's out of warranty. (Mine is out of warranty).

I was pretty bummed. The money down the drain, the hours spent getting my albums copied onto it. All gone.

My son advised me to look around ILounge for some help before giving up.

On the ILounge Message Board I found a Thread with the same problem.

The first Post stated that the person whacked his IPod against his palm and it reset and worked like a charm.

I couldn't believe that would be an option...

The next 30 posts or so were people stating they had the same problem and used the same solution and every one of their IPods worked perfectly now.

I tried it. It immediately worked.

My IPod is working fine for the last hour.

Isn't that amazing? It's amazing. You can't predict IPods, they're amazing I tell you.

Depends on how you look at it. I bought the 30 GB one in January (sold out of the 60 and I felt 30 was all I'd need). What I did was copy all the CDs that I liked onto it and the CDs that I didn't absolutely want any more, I sold back. I've gotten over $900 in store credit as a result.

I posted this because I was about to get a new IPod (or something similar) and start over. Hopefully no one ever has this problem, but if they do... They'll remember this Post.

You have to show those iPods who the man is. Before you whack it though, you might want to put on a catcher's mask.

    Hahah awesome.

I have a 737 OPS. I play catcher for the Boston Red Sox. I am definitely not "clutch" as Sox fans claim and I am a big boy. I mean almost David Wells big. My defense is overrated and I have an ugly goatee.

About 1 month ago, my ipod fell behind my bed and landed on the floor pretty hard. Ever since then, I hadn't been able to turn it off. I would have to keep it plugged it constantly, unless I wanted the battery to run out. I just tried this solution, and it worked perfectly. Thanks John.
